Course Description

In this course students study the evolution of development thinking and planning, types of
development planning, as well as nature and types of development planning models and
their application to economic policy analysis. The topics include evolution of development
doctrine and planning, types of development planning, quantitative development
techniques, and development planning in practice.

Course Objective

Planning is seen as essential for the guiding development path of countries, especially
developing countries like Ethiopia. It is an integral part of their economic systems. The
purpose of this course is to create an understanding of the concept of development planning
and the tools that are used in practice. The substance of development planning would be
taken up in different parts of the course focusing on concepts, principles, tools and practices.
The following are the main topics to be covered in this course.
