Members of the Association are confronted with several challenges, including but not limited to,

High cost of raw materials especially some species of wood such as Iroko and Mahogany

High cost of training from Experts and Institutions

Inadequate Financial Resources

Competition from other companies and foreign imported ones

Lack of adequate technical Skills

WHAT IS THE PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM(S) IDENTIFIED?


The proposed solutions to the problems are the following:
1. Contracting qualified trainers to train members in all the skills Gaps identified
2. Training and upgrading the skills of selected members in current machines and tools handling.
3. Contracting qualified trainers to train and upgrade the skills of selected members on Occupational Health and
Safety practices and Waste reduction and Management
4. Training members on Quality control, costing and pricing, and all other skills identified
This solution will cover about one thousand master craftsmen

HOW WOULD YOU CARRY OUT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES

First of all, Project timelines for all the activities would be designed.
1. The master craftsmen would be divided into various groups for the training in both practicals and theory.
2. There would be a simple to use manuals for all trainees
3. All training activities will be undertaken in a chronological order that ensures that trainees that pass the practical
tests of each training activity after the stipulated period are moved to the next module.
4. All the five identified skills gaps would be part of the modules
5. Videos and photographic information would be shown
6. Training of staff on Environmental management and practices
7. Practical Safety and waste reduction methodologies would be used in address the issues of accidents and
environmental pollution

EXPECTED FINAL RESULT OF THE PROPOSED SOLUTION

WHAT IS EXPECTED FINAL RESULT OF THE PROPOSED SOLUTION?


1. It is expected that production capacity would have increased.
2. It is expected that efficiency in machines use, and proper handling would have been achieved which would have
resulted in high productivity level.
3. It is expected that after the training, accidents and injuries, as well as Environmental Pollution would be
eliminated or brought to the barest minimum, resulting in high and managed man-hours for improved and
increased productivity.
4. It is expected that after the Grant, members would be in a position to train more apprentices.
5. It is expected that Turnover would increase.
6. It is expected that there would be transfer of skills/in-house capacity building in the identified areas.
7. It is also envisaged that after the project, there would be transfer of skills/in-house capacity building in the
identified areas.
8. It also expected that there would be an increase of the following:
- Productivity
- Net Profit
- Employment

ORGANISATION?
The measures to take to ensure the lasting effects of the support in our association are the following:
1. Internally generate Funds to support the project after the SDF Fund has been exhausted.
2. Motivate trained workers to apply skills acquired to their maximum use.
3. Ensuring continuity in training.
4. There would be internal Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism to monitor and evaluate the expected results of

the project.
