ABSTRACT
Batch Sedimentation is a major form of separation also known as settling, also it can
be defined as the removal of solid particles from a suspension by settling under gravity. Batch
sedimentation has been widely used in the separation of flocculated suspension into a very
concentrated sediment and a clear liquid which in this case is water. However, a perfect
liquid-solid layer should be obtained but there may be some fine solid particles in the liquid
layer and some of the liquid might contain some particle of the solids.
This report documents the determination of settling velocity as a function of
concentration using chalk slurry. Also in this report the material used is chalk.
