Young Change Maker Project

Description of the intended project (300 words)

Young Change Maker (YCM) is a non-profit project developed by VinUniversity and
Cornell University students with a mission to create a comprehensive solution for high
school students from 15 to 18 years old, who are struggling with their career orientation
path. In 2021, competing against 363 teams globally, YCM’s idea ranked top 6 Southeast
Asia in The WorldClass Education. Challenge, organized by Deloitte and the World Economic
Forum. We as the young people who used to find ourselves lost in our career orientation
path want to help high school students to explore themselves and understand the labour
market by providing 4 free and online services of YCM: Industry Knowledge, Mentoring,
Essential Skills, and Project Connection.
We aim to create a one-stop-shop for all students that in need of career guidance so
that they can find all information from industry overview, specific job role to required
skillset, career potential; to skills library as well as real industry-related jobs/projects for free
on our platform. Industry-focused, accurate information is presented in one systematic
platform in a youngster-friendly format, helping them have a clear orientation of their
future career paths and make the right decision.
Furthermore, our project organizes a BusEZ tour, in which YCM team travels to high
schools in the North and Central Vietnam to deliver career orientation workshops and
mentorship to students. Our projects prepare a wide range of lectures for students to
choose from based on their preferences of profession. The purpose of this program is to
interact directly with high school students to guide them through the career orientation
path. The team of experts from diverse backgrounds will bring them real stories and
experiences from the industry that they are currently working in.

What is the impact of this project? (300 words)

Acknowledging the importance of career orientation in Vietnam, especially search
for stable, suitable job and the lack of career prospect planning are the two factors that
impact community youth growth. Personalized skills training and career development

1
preparation should be provided regardless of students’ educational background and
occupational competence, in order to enhance their job satisfaction and service quality.
In a recent conducted survey, approximately 60% of students choose incompatible major.
Only 5% of them have the basic knowledge about the major that they have chosen.
According to the survey that we conducted among 600 high school students from 28
provinces in Vietnam, there are:
 42% of those who are interested in career orientation said that they have not figured
out the career path that they should follow.
 80% thought that not being able to know how their ability and personality can match
with each specific job is the main reason.
 54% said that they do not know how to orient themselves.
Considering the above status of Vietnamese youth, our mission is to instil career
readiness for the 15-to-18-year-old youngsters in Vietnam and beyond. Our solution is a
digital crowd-engaged platform that can provide a one-stop-shop solution towards better
future skills and job potentials. Our website is built to help Vietnamese youth self-educate
about career opportunities and lead their own career paths by offering up-to-date,
representative, and system-wide information and support. Therefore, we are able to
contribute to Vietnam’s national growth and competitiveness, providing our nation a future
generation of high-quality labour force.
Moreover, our core focus is BusEZ project, in which we create offline career orienting
lectures and mentoring for high school students. The project has reached 2 stops: Nguyen
Gia Thieu High School and Le Van Thiem High School, approaching approximately 300
students. The BusEZ outcomes align with what we expected to offer as a community service:
bring industrial knowledge and career readiness to the young individuals who are in need.
