He is one of the first four Pensionados who

graduated with a degree in Architecture from Cornell


University in 1911 and founded Mapua Institute of
TOMAS B.
Technology (MIT) on Jan. 1925. In 2005, MIT was
transformed into a University.

He holds the distinction as the first


pensionado architect, having graduated three years
earlier than Mapua in 1908 from the prestigious
Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is also the CARLOS A.
second registered Architect in the Philippines.
BARRETTO

At the age of sixteen, he stood out as the


youngest pensionado when he was sent to the Ohio
State University to study Architecture and graduated ANTONIO M.
