PLAN OF ACTION
Firstly I read about some very common issues we see when it comes to the topic ;
mental health. The youth faces severe hitches like depression, anxiety disorders,
insecurities, anger issues, etc. Secondly, to learn more about the people around me I
floated a survey that had simple questions about how they actually feel and what they
do about it. Later I summarised the responses for a better understanding as to what
exactly was the issue. Nextly on a serious analysis I concluded with actual reasons of
why these problems are at peaks especially for the Gen-z. Lastly I wrote the script of
my podcast “THE YOUNG WHISPERS”

WHY I CHOSE THIS NAME ??

When do we whisper? When we need to share something but only to someone

specific…we don’t want everyone to know it. With that context people don’t like
sharing about their mental well being with everyone … They only express themselves
to people they trust.

A JOURNEY OF RESEARCH, ANALYSING , UNDERSTANDING


AND REALISING

In recent years, mental health issues have become increasingly prevalent among
young individuals, with a staggering rise in cases of depression, anxiety disorders,
insecurities, anger issues, and more. Through the process of creating a podcast about
general mental health issues, I embarked on a journey of extensive research and

analysis to gain a better understanding of these challenges faced by the youth.

As an introduction to my podcast, I highlighted the severity of mental health issues
faced by today's youth. By citing statistical evidence and anecdotal accounts, I

demonstrated that these challenges are not isolated incidents but rather a widespread
problem affecting individuals from diverse backgrounds. I also highlighted why the

society is ignorant towards mental health and considers physical, economical and
social health more crucial.

To gain a more personal understanding of the people around me, I decided to conduct
a survey. The survey consisted of simple questions aimed at eliciting honest responses
about how individuals felt, as well as their coping mechanisms. The purpose was to

gather firsthand accounts and gain a deeper insight into the emotions and struggles

experienced by young people.

After receiving a substantial number of responses, I carefully analyzed and

summarised the data obtained from the survey. This step allowed me to identify
common themes, recurring emotions, and widespread issues faced by the participants.

By categorising and organising the data, I obtained a clearer understanding of the


primary concerns affecting the mental well-being of the youth.

Through a serious analysis of the survey data and extensive research, I delved deeper
into the reasons behind the alarming increase in mental health problems among the
SA

Gen-Z population. Several key factors emerged as significant contributors to this


phenomenon:

a) Social media and its impact: The pervasive influence of social media platforms has
created a breeding ground for comparison, unrealistic expectations, and cyberbullying.
Constant exposure to carefully curated lives on these platforms has led to increased
feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem among young individuals.
b) Academic pressure: The intense academic demands placed on today's youth have
further exacerbated their mental health challenges. The pressure to excel academically,
coupled with the fear of failure, has resulted in excessive stress, anxiety, and
depression.
c) Economic uncertainty: The uncertain economic landscape adds an additional layer
of stress, particularly for the youth entering the job market. The fear of unemployment
and financial instability weighs heavily on their mental well-being.
d) Lack of support systems: Limited awareness, stigma, and inadequate access to
mental health resources further contribute to the escalating mental health crisis. The
youth often struggle to find appropriate support systems, resulting in their mental
health issues going unaddressed and worsening over time.

In conclusion, my research and analysis for creating a podcast on general mental


health issues proved to be an enlightening experience. The survey enabled me to
collect valuable insights into the emotions, struggles, and coping mechanisms of the
youth. By summarising and analysing the survey data, I gained a deeper understanding

of the prevalent mental health challenges faced by the Gen-Z population. Additionally,
my analysis allowed me to identify key factors that contribute to the escalation of

these issues. It is crucial that society acknowledges these factors and works towards
providing better support systems, reducing stigma, and creating awareness to address

the mental health crisis among the youth effectively. Through education,
destigmatization, and the allocation of adequate resources, we can make a positive

impact on the mental well-being of the young generation.

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE ISSUE

In order to achieve a healthier and happier life, it is imperative that you prioritise the
well-being of your mind. To address this issue, there are several persuasive steps you
can undertake. First and foremost, make it a point to engage in activities that bring

you joy and offer a sense of fulfilment. Whether it's pursuing a hobby or indulging in

a passion, doing things you enjoy is essential for maintaining mental wellness.
Additionally, ensure that you are getting ample rest and rejuvenation. Prioritise a good
night's sleep, and allow yourself designated time for relaxation and leisure.

Furthermore, nurture your relationships by spending quality time with loved ones;
their support and companionship can significantly contribute to your overall mental

well-being. Engaging in acts of kindness and giving back to the community, such as
assisting the less fortunate, can also promote a sense of purpose and contentment.
Consider incorporating mindfulness practices into your routine, such as meditation or
yoga, as they can help you manage stress and cultivate a sense of inner peace.
Moreover, the therapeutic benefits of dance, playing or listening to music, or spending
time in nature's company should not be overlooked; they can all contribute to a
balanced and serene state of mind. By embracing these activities and making them an
integral part of your life, you will be actively taking steps toward fixing the issue and
enjoying a healthier and happier existence.
