Review of the Book - Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

A very motivational book without a lot of practical
steps to magically achieve the goals listed. Some
inaccurate information such as Charles Schwab dying
penniless. More important is the author filed for
bankruptcy in 2012. Why is that? Research it on your
own. For most people this will motivate them to THINK
differently and think outside the box, but not
necessarily ACT differently, as we still need money to
live on and have to work some and not just dream big
without action and income behind it.

Some people complain that this book does not give a step-by-step process for
change. I would counter that one size shoe does not fit all feet. There are many
individual paths to wealth, and Kiyosaki sets the guiding stars to navigate by, but
you have to walk your own individual road.

Some key concepts of this book are:

1) Assets put money in your pocket even when you are on vacation. Liabilities
take money out of your pocket, therefore your house is a liability [unless you rent
out rooms and the garage as one person I know did while rebuilding his asset
base].
2) Wealthy people buy assets first and then let their assets buy their luxuries from
the surplus cash flow.
3) Wealthy people continuously increase their assets by reinvesting their surplus
cash flow in more assets.
4) There are 3 primary asset classes: Real Estate, Businesses, and Paper assets
(stocks bonds notes, etc)
5) Cash Flow is more important than Net Worth. Net Worth is similar to potential
energy, to use it you have to spend it, then it is gone. Cash Flow is like power from
a hydroelectric dam, constantly replenished.
The rich don't work for money, they work for assets.
The tax laws are fair from the standpoint that the laws that the rich spent billions
of dollars to have modified and interpreted apply to everyone who learns how to
use them.

Review of the Book - 1984 by George Orwell

1984 is a thrilling classic novel by George Orwell that
brings readers into a dystopian society where citizens
know “Big brother is watching you.” (Orwell 2) The book
follows Winston Smith as he secretly denounces the all-
powerful government, Big Brother, and decides to live a
daring life of scandals and secrets. As expected, Big
Brother catches Winston, and tortures him ruthlessly until
he is a shell of his former self.
Although the storyline itself is exhilarating enough to make readers want to
turn the next page, it’s really the larger message that makes this read so
worthwhile: extreme political philosophies, like Big Brothers’ totalitarianism, are
no good. Regardless of whether or not the characters are relatable, the book
definitely serves as a cautionary tale to all those who have scanned its pages.
This book has many horrifying elements and scenes, such as telescreens, the
things constantly watching people even in their own homes. Newspeak, Big
Brother’s official language, is also very unsettling, as the government controls
what people say and think without them realizing it, because the words to think
bad thoughts do not even exist. However, limited language and stalking screens
are nothing compared to the awful dehumanization that Big Brother inflicts on
those who don’t agree with them.
Perhaps, though, the scariest thing about this novel was that I didn’t find it all
that scary. Many things Orwell brilliantly predicted are a reality now, like cameras
in the pockets of nearly every person in a developed country that could
potentially “see” and “hear” everything. Phones like the iPhone not only have
fingerprints (for touch identification) but now are starting to delve into the world
of facial recognition, and no one truly knows for sure where this information
goes. We see far worse things than Winston saw in the Ministry of Love by simply
turning on the news. Nations like North Korea have complete control over their
citizens, and the saddest part is, these citizens are too shielded from reality to
even know that there is something wrong with the way they are treated. People
also have the tendency to blindly trust whatever the media says, which could just
be another way us people are manipulated every day. It makes me wonder, is
2+2 really 4… or, because numbers are a concept created by man, could it really
equal 5?

Review of the Book - The Great Gatsby by A F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby, the third novel by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, was published in 1925 by Charles
Scribner’s Sons. Set in Jazz Age New York, the
novel tells the tragic story of Jay Gatsby, a self-
made millionaire, and his pursuit of Daisy
Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he
loved in his youth. The book is narrated by Nick
Carraway, a Yale University graduate from the
Midwest who moves to New York after World War
I to pursue a career in bonds and becomes
familiar with Gatsby.
The moral of The Great Gatsby is that the
American Dream is ultimately unattainable. Jay
Gatsby had attained great wealth and status as a

topic/The-Great-Gatsby)
The Great Gatsby is a recognized classic. Interestingly, the book did not sell very
well during Fitzgerald’s lifetime, and when he died in 1940 he seemed to have
regarded the book as a failure. When he died, scholars started to assess his work,
and The Great Gatsby was recognized as an important work of literature. Besides
its recognition, one must also think about its meaning for us in the present day
The “prohibition” period that he writes about was a strangely decadent period in
America. Furthermore, the catastrophes of the Holocaust and WWII changed
much about the U.S. and its position in the world.
Since then, too, there has been substantial progress in civil rights, including the
rights of women. In this sense, his novel seems parochial, and not very relevant
for us today: Too much has changed about the world. Nevertheless, I think that if
you approach the novel with an open mind and some knowledge of the historical
context, you can see elements that remain of interest today. Fitzgerald was
struggling with themes that are larger than his times and still speak to us today.
