1 INTRODUCTION
Profibus DP is an industrial fieldbus which allows connecting actuators and other devices (sensors …) 3 PROFIBUS INTERFACE
to a Distributed Control System (DCS) or a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Many actuators and
other devices can be connected on a single or redundant fieldbus line provided they are all equipped 3.1 Hardware description
with a compatible Profibus interface.
The Profibus DPV1 interface described in this document has been specially designed for the Bernard The Profibus module « Intellibus « located in the actuator is plugged on to the main Intelli+ board
actuators with INTELLI+ control. This interface is compliant with Profibus DP (V0) and Profibus DPV1. and no access is needed.
Profibus DP (V0) runs cyclic communication when Profibus DPV1 runs in addition acyclic messages.

Redundant communication

The redundant version is specially interesting to ensure a communication continuity even if one line
disrupted or if one interface board is out of order for any reason.
In case of a redundant fieldbus, the PLC must be able to manage 2 fieldbus lines.
Two Profibus interface boards are built in the actuator with isolated connections to the Profibus
lines.
In case of failure along a line, the PLC can still communicate through the other line.
Redundancy is also available with specific monitoring «RedCom with redundancy extensions» that
can be used if the PLC can support the same extensions.
According to the fieldbus version required an INTELLIBUS, single or redundant line, may equip the
actuator.
Control box with inside Profibus DP interface could be supplied to connect other equipment.
Please make sure to get and read the INTELLI+ instructions for start-up (ref.NR1151) prior going
further with the setting of the Intellibus interface.

As far as actuators with INTEGRAL+, POSIGAM+ or MODUGAM+ controls are concerned,

please refer to the Profibus DP for INTEGRAL+ instructions for start-up (NR1148).

A termination has to be installed at each end of line. To ease user’s job, this termination is built
in the connection box.
This termination is done through links in the terminal compartment. In case of a redundant version,
a termination is connected for both channels.

3.4 Set-up
The INTELLIBUS module is only acting as a Profibus
slave. The default setting address is 02.
To change this address, use the local control button of the actuator. (refer: NR1151).
In the menu select Change
then select Fieldbus
then select Slave Nr.
With the blue button modify the address.
Confirm OK with the red button.
To save, select return in each submenu until to read:

(Change OK?)
Confirm OK with the red button.
Other configuration:
Lost communication: In case of loss of communication the actuator operates to the close position,

3.2 Cable type Also in case of loss of communication all controls are reset. For example if the auxiliary control AUX1
is configured «Local control inhibit» when communication is lost, local controls are available again.

an emergency supply could be used to continue to communicate through the fieldbus. This emergency
supply needs 24V DC 4W. BERNARD CONTROLS can supply weatherproof or explosion proof repeaters.

The Profibus cable coming from the PLC is connected to the first actuator then the Profibus cable
links this actuator with the next one and so on. All actuators are connected to the line one after plc
the other until the last one. No return to the PLC is required.
To avoid reduced performance in transmission don’t add ramifications on the line

Redundancy

Redundancy of the fieldbus system is to continue to communicate with the actuators even if a line fails.
plc In order to achieve this function all the communication system is doubled. The PLC uses two output

needs a termination Redundancy» N° 2212, that includes a redundancy communication channel (RedCom) and special
redundancy extensions. One of the slave module acts as primary and the other one as backup.

In fact the Profibus system allows different level of redundancy:

Maximum line length is 1200m (3600ft). Maximum number of actuators by line is 31. Flying redundancy is a redundancy of the connection point, the actuator interface is doubled and
Maximum line length is reduced according to the communication speed: also the PLC interface. The line (Profibus cable) is a single line.
The redundant actuator interface INTELLIBUS has 2 channels, each one is connected to the Profibus line.
Transmission baud rate < 93.75 kBit/s 187.5 kBit/s 500 kBit/s 1,5 MBit/s The address is not the same for each channel. One address is chosen from 1 to 125, the other one
is this address + 64.

Adding repeaters modules allows to increase both the number of actuator on the line and total
line length. Each repeater uses one connection point therefore this limits the number of actuators Backup

According to the type of repeater, it is possible to use until 9 repeaters and to extend the line

The important advantage of the repeater compared to other repeater-free technologies is to keep
the communication speed unaffected and therefore to get a very short response time. Redundant PLC

5 ACYCLIC COMMUNICATION Available data through PROFIBUS acyclic communication
The INTELLIBUS supports acyclic communication (extension V1 of the Profibus protocol) which Data is organised in slot and index:

the V1 extension. Indexes (0 to 61)are listed below.
There is two type of master in the acyclic communication:
- The master class1 which supports cyclic communication. It is normally the same PLC which Index Data Description Byte Read/write
