2. Basic inspection
This chapter describes the maintenance of Gauss. The following operations can only be performed by
authorized repair centres.
2.1. Maintenance preparation

2.3.1. IMEI Check
➢ There’re 4 ways to check the IMEI:
1) Power on the handset, go to ”Settings”->“System”->“About phone” ->“Status”-> “IMEI information”;
2) Open dial pad and type *#06#;
3) Open dial pad -> Type *#2886# -> “MANU” -> “TRACEABILITY”.
4) IMEI is engraved on SIM tray (For Dual SIM version, only engrave IMEI1)

If IMEI numbers checked by any 2 of above 4 ways are not the same, it means the device is out of
warranty policy.
2.3.2. Humidity sensitive label
Humidity sensitive label check:
If humidity sensitive label is not good, the cell phone will be considered as out of guarantee.
1). Liquid was detected by humidity sensitive label.
2). Position of humidity sensitive sticker.

2.4. Product test
2.4.1. Recovery mode
How to use: Long press “Volume up” Key + “Power” Key at the same time until the LCD lights on in
power off mode to enter recovery mode.
When to use: When you cannot start your handset/tablet or when there will be something wrong
during switch on or when cannot charge or cannot charge normally.
Consumer personal data format: it will format consumer data, and the memory and settings of your
product will return as released from factory.

Click-through steps：
1. Long press “Volume up” Key + “Power” Key at the same time until the LCD lights on in power off
mode to enter recovery mode.
2. Press Volume key to select “Wipe data / factory reset” then press Power key to confirm factory reset;

3. Press Volume key to select “Yes” and then press Power key to confirm the deletion of all user data;
4. Factory reset complete, press Volume key to select “Reboot system now” then press Power key to
confirm.

2.4.2. Function test (SDT test & MMI test)
1) Check that the SIM card is inserted correctly.
2) Power on the product.
3) If the product displays “input NCK code”, this means the software is Network locked or SIM locked,
and can only be used with dedicated SIM card hence use the relevant SIM card or enter the phone
code if available.
4) Power on the product to launch the SDT/MMI test;
a. Using Smart Diagnosis Tool to proceed with the test, for detail instruction of test with
Smart Diagnosis Tool, please refer to < Smart Diagnosis Manual > in support (CSS/RSH)
website.

Please always use the latest version of the software downloading tool in order to take advantage
of the latest improvements. This SmartDiagnosis tool can be downloaded from support website
(CSS/RSH)
Below are the testing items that are not involved in the SDT test, please do an extra
manual test on them by referring to part B (Manu test code) hereafter:
CheckTunning
a) It will run the test automatically, it will show OK if it functions well;
b) Press “PASS” to continue.
FM
a) Follow the instruction to test “FM” by inserting headset;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if it functions well;
c) Remove headset according to instruction.
USB OTG
a) Insert USB OTG cable to test, then it will detect and show “OK” if it functions well;
E-Compass
a) Please move the phone is an 8 shape according to the instruction and press “OK”;
b) The compass will always point north whatever the phone is put at which direction if it
functions well;
c) Press “PASS” to continue.

a) It will test the parameter of Psensor automatically;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if it functions well.
GPS
a) It will check the GPS calibration automatically;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if “GPS” functions well.
Fingerprint
a) It will run the test automatically, and then press the fingerprint module (on the battery cover)
according to instructions;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if “Fingerprint” functions well.
Calling
a) It will check the GPS calibration automatically;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if “GPS” functions well.
Battery Level
a) It will check the battery level automatically;
b) Press “back key” to continue if it functions well.
EfuseCheck
a) It will check the Efuse function, it will show “Enable” if it functions well;
Attestation key
a) It will run the test automatically;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if it” functions well.
Factory Reset

Press “Reset” to do factory reset or press “back key” to exit.
MemoryLifeTime
a) It will show the status of device lift time;
b) Press “PASS” to continue if it functions well.
DuALCAM VERIFY
Please refer to Chapter4 <Dual Camera repair process> for specific operation steps.
Note:
a) If there is no camera failure and the handset wasn’t disassembled, please do not perform the
DUALCAM VERIFY.
b) If there is no camera failure but main PCBA or Cameras are disassembled/reassembled,
please do the DUALCAM VERIFY.
c) If there is camera failure, please follow chapter 4 <Dual Camera repair process> to do camera
repair and DUALCAM VERIFY.
b. Manu test code
Type *#2886# in dial pad to enter MMI test mode, you will then see the interface displaying the
SW version. Select “Auto” to start the auto test, or select “MANU” to do the MMI test manually.
If one of the tests fails during “Auto” test mode, it will display “Failed: xxx”. In this case, either
press ‘Next’ to go on test or press ‘RETEST’ to retest this item or press ‘END’ to Power off.”

2.4.3. RF test instruction

3. Software download
The minimum requirements to perform a software download are as follow:
1. Product with Fully charged battery
2. PC with below configurations
CPU: Equal to Pentium 1.6 GHZ or above.
RAM: 2GB or above.
Hard Disk: 2GB or above.
Operation System: Windows / XP / Vista / Win7/Win8/Win10
USB port
Internet connection with minimum internet speed of 8Mb/s
3. SW download tool
Please use the dedicated software downloading tool (DL Tool) for this product. The version of this
tool at launched of the product is “Sugar QCT SP V11.8.7R”.
Please always use the latest version of the software downloading tool in order to take advantage of
the latest improvements. This DL tool can be downloaded from support website (CSS/RSH).
4. Please upgrade the handset to latest software after all repairs is completed, and no matter what

The device must enter the Download mode before the software download, please refer to below
method:
1) Connect the device with PC by USB cable;
2) Press “Power key” + “Volume up key” + “Volume down key” at the same time for few seconds;
3) Enter the following interface (below pic) and press “Volume up key” to enter the Download mode.

1) DUALCAM VERIFY” test instructions:
DUALCAM VERIFY test is mainly used to check/verify the assembly flatness of cameras, not to
calibrate.
Step 1:
Type “*#2886#” enter MMI
mode->select “MANU”-
>”DUALCAM VERIFY”

If Camera module/main PCBA was

Step 3: Shooting requirements:

Touch camera button to shoot - A scene with more outlines: such
as portrait, flowers and plants, toys
etc. which with distinct silhouette.
Solid color walls, sky etc. scenes
should be avoided.
- Distance between subject and rear
camera should within 0.3m~2m,
background between rear camera
should large than 2m.
- Illuminance is about 300~1000lux

5. Disassembly and reassembly Gauss
5.1. Preparation
5.1.1. ESD Safety
a) Do not start the disassembly process if without ESD protection, suggest sticking a warning poster
on the wall in the work room

5.2. Disassembly process
The complete disassembly guide are described in the following for your reference only, you can
selectively (except disassembly and assembly method which needs to be followed carefully) do some
of those steps according to the spare part which you need to replace.
The steps of disassembly Gauss are as below.
Step1: Remove the SIM tray by using SIM card pin.

The IMEI was carved on the
SIM tray, when you replace
the main PCBA, please
replace the SIM tray which
with the corresponding
IMEI.
Step2: Separate and remove Furnished battery cover by using plastic flake.

cover from bottom side,
slide along both side and
remove Furnished battery
cover.
Step3: Firstly remove 17pcs screws on the phone; then remove Furnished Antenna Support and Furnish
Speaker Hold.

5.3. Reassembly process
Please make reference to the disassembly process for assembly reverse an order of the disassembly
steps.

➢ Before assemble Main PCBA on the Front Furnished Underfilling, you must confirm that P-sensor
FPC & rubber, front camera, receiver and Sub MIC rubber had assembled on the Front Furnished
Underfilling correctly.
➢ Before assemble Sub PCBA on the Front Furnished Underfilling, you must confirm that L-sensor
FPC, Vibrator and USB rubber had assembled correctly.
➢ Pay attention to the main dual camera’s order when assemble it on PCBA.

➢ Dual Cam verification must be done once camera module /main PCBA was disassembled/
reassembled.

sub PCBA FPC are well installed firstly.
➢ Pay attention to the receiver and speaker’s direction when assemble them.

6. L2 trouble shooting
This chapter describes the Level 2 repair that can be done without any diagnostic equipment.
Please refer to <General L2 trouble shooting V1.1> in support (CSS/RSH) website for details.
Note:
1) For Gauss’s side key, it can’t be disassembled, if want to replace it, please replace the Front Furnished
Underfilling;
2) As Gauss sub PCBA& main-sub FPC are integrated together, please pay attention when doing L2
trouble shootings;
3) As LCD& front housing &TP is dispensing component, please replace Front Furnished Underfilling if
LCD/TP need to be replaced;
4) Please follow chapter 4<Dual Camera repair process> to do Camera repair;
5) In case the Level 2 repair can’t solve the problem, for L2 repair center, please exchange the PCB.
7. PCBA exchange
For L2 repair center, if Level 2 repair does not solve the failure, it is mandatory to change the PCBA and

follow the process as below.
Please DO upgrade software and test again before exchanging the PCBA.
1) Collect the PCBA (without accessories, LCD and camera). MIC should be enclosed when you
exchange the PCBA.
2) Fill in the record sticker with IMEI number, fault code, short code, Hardware Technical Level and
software version.
3) All the defective PCBAs should be sent to RSH. If RSH send defective PCBAs for L3 repair, please DO
follow the packaging requirement mentioned in TN14011.
4) The IMEI1 was carved on the SIM tray, when you replace the main PCBA, please replace the SIM tray
which with the corresponding IMEI.
8. Functional test
During the function test, the following items must be checked and validated.
1) Cosmetic aspect of the handset.
2) The Software Technical sticker state on the Board.
3) Upgrade software of handset.
4) Switch on the handset.
5) Default welcome message.
6) Enter *#2886# at the dial mode to start the MMI test or using Smart Diagnosis Tool to do the test.
7) Perform a RF test according to the instruction and scripts available in the support website.
