1. L2E repair process

2. Warranty Check and Visual Inspection

2.1 Warranty confirmation of L1

 IMEI check:

1) Power on the handset, enter ”Settings”->“System”-> “About phone”-> “Status” -> “IMEI information”;

2) Input *#06# on dial pad screen.

 Humidity sensitive label check:

If humidity sensitive label is not good, the cell phone will be considered as out of guarantee.

1). Liquid was detected by humidity sensitive label.

2). Position of humidity sensitive sticker (in the battery jar).

2.2 Visual mechanical check


Please refer to <Visual mechanical check> in support (CSS/RSH) website for details.

3. Pretest
1) Check that the SIM card and SD card are set correctly.

2) Power on the cell phone.

3) If the cell phone asks to input NCK code, this means it is SIM locked and can only be worked with

dedicated SIM card. Use the correct SIM card.

4) Power on the product to launch the SDT/MMI test.

a. Using Smart Diagnosis Tool to proceed with the test, for detail instruction of test with
Smart Diagnosis Tool, please refer to < Smart Diagnosis Manual > in support (CSS/RSH)
website.

Please always use the latest version of the software downloading tool in order to take advantage
of the latest improvements. This SmartDiagnosis tool can be downloaded from support website
(CSS/RSH)

Below are the testing items that are not involved in the SDT test, please do an extra
manual test on them by referring to part B (Manu test code) hereafter:

TP RAW DATA TEST

a) Follow the instruction to test “TP RAW DATA TEST”(Don’t touch the screen);

b) Press “PASS” to continue if “TP RAW DATA” functions well.

TP LOCK TEST

a) Follow the instruction to test “TP LOCK TEST”(press power button);

b) Press power button again to light on the screen;

c) Press “PASS” to continue if “TP LOCK TEST” functions well.

FM RADIO

a) Follow the instruction to test “FM RADIO” by inserting headset;

b) Press “PASS” to continue if “FM RADIO” functions well.

GPS

a) It will check the GPS calibration automatically;

b) Press “PASS” to continue if “GPS” functions well.

CALL

a) Follow the instruction to test “CALL”, select “Yes” to dial 112;

b) Press “PASS” to continue if “CALL” functions well.

b. Manu test code

Type *#2886# in dial pad to enter MMI test mode, you will then see the interface displaying

the SW version. Select “Auto” to start the auto test, or select “MANU” to do the MMI test

manually.

If one of the tests fails during “Auto” test mode, it will display “Failed: xxx”. In this case, either

press ‘Next’ to go on test or press ‘RETEST’ to retest this item or press ‘END’ to Power off.”

4. SW download
The minimum requirements to perform a software download are as follow:

1. Product with Fully charged battery

2. PC with below configurations

CPU: Quad core 1.25GHz

RAM: 1GB DDR3

Operation system: Windows2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7/8/10

USB port

Internet connection with minimum internet speed of 8Mb/s

3. SW download tool

Please use the dedicated software downloading tool (DL Tool) “Curie_After_Sales_Tools” for

this product.

Please always use the latest version of the software downloading tool in order to take

advantage of the latest improvements. This DL tool can be downloaded from support website

(CSS/RSH).

4.1.2 Unchanged CU reference software upgrade process

Below 4 steps are suitable for unchanged CU reference upgrade.

Step1: Go into software upgrade interface, input account & password (Same with Sugar), then click
“Login” icon.

Step2: Load the target software version file.

Step 3: Start the download after target software loading complete.

a) Remove your phone battery, press “Start” button to start download

b) Press and hold the “Volume down” button on your phone-> Connect your phone to PC by using
USB cable-> Install your phone battery.

c) Release the “Volume down” key until the download progress is shown in the window.

Step 4: Download finished.

4.1.3 Changed CU reference software upgrade process

Below 5 steps are suitable for changed CU reference upgrade from software A to software B.

Note: The original CU Ref (software A) and Target CU Ref (software B) must be UNLOCK version and
with the same Code Name. (Refer to tracking sheet for UNLOCK version details)

Step 4: Start the download.

a) Remove your phone battery, press “Start” button to start download;

b) Press and hold the “Volume down” button on your phone-> Connect your phone to PC by using
USB cable-> Install your phone battery;

c) Release the “Volume down” key until the download progress is shown in the window.

Step 5: Download finished.


For example: Software had changed from ALRU to ALWE, and CU reference also changed from 5003D-
2AALRU1 to 5003D-2AALWE1

5.1 ESD Safety
a) Do not start the disassembly process if without ESD protection, suggest sticking a warning poster
on the wall in the work room

b) Below is the ESD set up for the workbench in the work room

c) Make sure the personal ESD protection is ready before entering the work room

d) Detect the wrist strap is working good by using ESD wrist trap tester, as below

5.3 Disassembly process


The complete disassembly guide are described in the following for your reference only, you can
selectively (except disassembly and assembly method which needs to be followed carefully)do some of
those steps according to the spare part which you need to replace.

The steps of disassembly Curie are as below.

Warning:
a) Improper operation on battery will cause high risk for fire or burning. Thus please follow up the battery
disassembly guidance strictly and pay high attention to the WARNING part. Do not disassemble battery
unless it is necessary.
b) Potential for fire or burning. Do not puncture, crush, or heat the battery. Strictly avoid using sharp tool to
pry up battery. Fire extinguisher is needed for emergency.
c) The battery can be re-used after disassembly if it is normal.
d) Storage relative humidity at 45% ~85%
e) Storage for batteries between -20°C ~ 20°C

Step3: Firstly remove 12 pcs screws on the phone; then remove Furnished frame.

There’re 12 screws on the


phone.

Remove the 12 screws on


the phone by using screws
driver or electric screws

Separate Furnished frame
by using Pry Bar & plastic
flake.

Note: As ANT is stuck on


the bottom part of frame,
Zoom Zoom please do not separate
“Plastic operation restricted
area” by using plastic flake
when disassembling frame.

1) Pry up Furnished frame


from left side by using
Pry Bar (Flat side) and
slide along left side to

2) Loosen 1 side of

using plastic flake.

Step4: Separate some components and disconnect connectors as below; remove main (sub) PCBA.

Remove Side key, loosen Side


key FPC, TP & LCD connector
and RF cable, separate
vibrator from Furnished front
casing.

Note:
(1) As FPC is easy to get
damaged, please be careful.

Separate and remove LCD
and TP from Furnished

(3) Slowly take out the TP
FPC and TP from Furnished
Front casing by hand.

Then separate LCD from
right to left as shown.

5.4 Reassembly process

Please make reference to the disassembly process for assembly reverse an order of the disassembly
steps.

Attention:
 Before assemble PCBA on the Furnished Front Casing, you must confirm that Rear camera, Front
camera, Vibrator and Side key FPC had assembled on the PCBA correctly.

 Pay attention to the Rear camera’s direction when assemble it on PCBA.

 Pay attention to the Vibrator’s polarity when assemble it on PCBA by using solder iron.
Temperature: 330±10℃

 Pay attention to components & metal part in the 2 red circles as below when assemble Side key
FPC on PCBA by using solder iron.( Temperature: 330±10℃)

 There are 2 assembly methods on Speaker & receiver (2 in 1) and both are OK.

 Before assemble PCBA on the Furnished Front Casing, you must confirm that Sub PCBA
conductive foam 1, Sub PCBA conductive foam 2, MIC rubber and Sub PCBA adhesive had
assembled on the Furnished front casing correctly.

 For TP module reusing, it is suggested to paste the TP foam on the TP module by using below
auxiliary fixture.
Note: The TP module adhesive area must be clean before pasted

6 Level 2 repair
This chapter describes the Level 2 repair that can be done without any diagnostic equipment.
Please refer to <General L2 trouble shooting V1.1> in support (CSS/RSH) website for details.

Note:

1) There is no specific main-sub connector on main PCBA and it is integrated on LCD connector;

2) As Curie doesn’t have NFC function, please just ship when doing L2 trouble shootings;

3) As Curie Speaker & receiver are integrated together, please pay attention when doing L2 trouble
shootings;

4) As Curie doesn’t have Fingerprint function, please just ship when doing L2 trouble shootings;

5) As Curie doesn’t have Light Sensor function, please just ship when doing L2 trouble shootings;

6) For Curie P-sensor, there is a rubber integrated on Furnished front casing and it is non-removable;

7) In case the Level 2 repair can’t solve the problem, for L2 repair center, please exchange the PCB.

7 L2E repair
Before performing the following troubleshooting operations, please make sure the software of the
device is in good condition and restored to default settings.

7.2 Trouble shooting for common failures


Please refer to <General L2E trouble shooting V1.0> in support (CSS/RSH) website for details.

Note:
1) As Curie doesn’t have pull-up resistor( for TP, sensor & camera part), please just skip when doing
the L2E trouble shooting;
2) As Curie Speaker & receiver are integrated together, please pay attention when doing L2E trouble
shootings;
3) As Curie doesn’t have NFC function, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;
4) As Curie doesn’t have TF card protective capacitor, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble
shooting;
5) As Curie main-sub FPC is integrated on LCD (FPC), please pay attention when doing L2E trouble
shootings;

6) As Curie doesn’t have Compass function, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;
7) As Curie doesn’t have Light sensor function, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;
8) As Curie doesn’t have P- sensor IC, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;
9) As Curie doesn’t have 4-in-1 connectivity chip, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;
10) As Curie doesn’t have Fingerprint function, please just skip when doing the L2E trouble shooting;

7.3 L2E spare part list


Below table lists 5003D L2E spare parts, which is just for reference.
Note: The SPL here is just for reference. Actual Spare Part List depends on the CU reference. Please
check with RSH webshop or SCS system for the spare part list of specific CU.

8 PCBA exchange
For L2E repair center, if L2E repair does not solve the failure, it is mandatory to change the PCBA and
follow the process as below.

Please DO upgrade software and test again before exchanging the PCBA.

1) Collect the PCBA (without accessories, LCD and camera). MIC should be enclosed when you
exchange the PCBA.

2) Fill in the record sticker with IMEI number, fault code, short code, Hardware Technical Level and
software version.

3) All the defective PCBAs should be sent to RSH. If RSH send defective PCBAs for L3 repair, please
DO follow the packaging requirement mentioned in TN14011.

9 Functional test

During the function test, the following items must be checked and validated.

1) Cosmetic aspect of the handset.


2) The Software Technical sticker state on the Board.
3) Upgrade software of handset.
4) Switch on the handset.
5) Default welcome message.
6) Enter *#2886# at the dial mode to start the MMI test or using Smart Diagnosis Tool to do the test.
7) Perform a RF test according to the instruction and scripts available in the support website.
