2 Warranty Check and Visual Inspection

2.1 Warranty confirmation of L1

 IMEI sticker check:


1) Power on the handset, enter ”Settings” -> “About tablet” -> “Status” -> “IMEI information”
2) Input 0X0-0+= on calculator screen.
3) There are two IMEI sticker on the device:
Position 1: in the back casing
Position 2: in the SD slot cover
If the IMEI sticker in the back casing is not lost:
We should make sure that the IMEI number MUST be the same with the one on the IMEI
sticker; if not, it‟s out of warranty policy.
 Humidity sensitive label
If humidity sensitive label is not good, the cell phone will be considered as out of
guarantee.
1). Liquid was detected by humidity sensitive label.

2.2 Visual mechanical check

Mechanical warranties check items:


1) Corrosion

 Corrosion on the USB connector, SIM connector, and other metal surfaces。

2) Hole (diameter > 1mm)

 Holes on any surface, including the front casing, furnished frame, battery cover, touch Lens,
keypad…

3) Bump

 Bumps (diameter > 1mm) on any surface, including front casing, decorate frame, battery
cover, touch Lens, keypad, etc.

4) Scratch

 Scratches (length > 3mm) on any surface, including the front casing, decorate frame, battery
cover, touch Lens, keypad, etc.

5) Distortion

 Bend, twisted or crushed on the h/s, cover/casing or connectors, etc.

6) Broken

 Touch broken, casing/cover broken, etc.

7) Dropped

 Keypad tear off, touch lens, connectors dropped, etc.

8) Gap

 External physical damage relating to abnormal use, like front case and frame opened

9) Others

 Damage caused by disassembly ,wrong part assembly, loss of components

 Use in abnormal environment like high temperature causing plastic melts

2.3 Pretest

1) Check that the SIM card and SD card are set correctly.

2) Power on the tablet.

3) If the tablet asks to input NCK code, this means it is SIM locked and can only be worked with
dedicated SIM card. Use the correct SIM card.

4) Enter the phone code if necessary.

5) If power on, test step by step with the auto test code:

Open “Calculator” application, and input “0x0-0+=” to enter MMI test mode, and then you will
see the interface displaying the SW version. Select “Auto” to start the auto test, or select
“MANU” to do the MMI test manually.

If one of the tests failed during “Auto” test mode, it will display “Failed: xxx, Press „Next‟ to go
on test; Press „RETEST‟ to retest this item; Press „END‟ to Power off.”

 Battery Type

I. You can get information about Battery Type.

3) Battery life

The bellowing table shows the nominal battery life respectively in standby and talking mode. These
typical values are expressed in normal temperature with battery initially full charged and under good
ratio coverage. Battery range depends on the network characteristics, the ambient temperature and
particularly on movement.

Note:

 If the battery is new, charge it before use. Battery icon will appear after charging a short
time.

 If the battery is deeply discharged, battery icon will appear after charging several minutes
and accompany with a slight sound.

2) If the display does not light on or battery icon does not flash when the charger or the cell phone‟s
charge function is defective with mechanical or electronics.

In this case:

a) Replace the charger to charge.

 Confirm it works correctly or not.

 If it cannot work correctly after change charger.

b) Check the Charge connector on the cell phone.

 If it is damaged, replace the cell phone.

3.4 Note of Battery

Potential for fire or burning. Do not puncture, crush, or heat the battery. Strictly avoid using sharp tool to
pry up battery.
Fire extinguisher is needed for emergency.
The battery cannot be re-used after disassembly.

4 Software download

It is authorized to download software for the handset which needs to be updated. This
downloading tool is called “Sugar QCT_SP V10.4.7”. Handset Software can be
downloaded from TS website via it. Thus internet access is necessary.
Website: https://css.tclmobile.cn/.

4.1. Equipments requested when download:

⑴ A handset with full power;


⑵ PC with windows system;
⑶ A USB cable.

4.2. Handset driver installation

Double click to install the Sugar QCT_SP V10.4.7, then select the “YES” to install the USB
driver.

4.3. SW download process

I. Login the Sugar QCT_SP V10.4.7, then select the 9030G/9030Q/VDF1400 model:

II. Plug the device to the PC on power on mode. Click the „Get Version‟ button, it will
display the SW version , IMEI, Cu ref etc of the handset, press “Yes “ to continue.

5 Disassembly and assembly VDF1400

5.1 ESD Safety

5.3 Disassembly process

The steps of disassembly VDF1400 are as below.


Step1: Take off the back cover by using plastic flake.

Step2: Disconnect the Main camera, TP FPC, battery, Furnished LCD FPC, and remove the speakers, high
temperature tape and side key with the tweezers.

Step3: Take off the 19 (1.4*0.3*2.5mm, white) and 3 (1.4×0.3×1.3 mm, black) screws on the tablet with
screw driver:

Step4: Remove the Furnished LTE Antenna Bracket and Furnished DIV Antenna Bracket with plastic flake,
and then disconnect the Coaxial Cable with tweezers.

Step5: Pry up the PCBA with the plastic flake and separate the DIV Antenna PCBA with tweezers.

Step 6: Separate the Furnished Middle Frame from the Furnished Front Casing&TP&LC with plastic flake.

Step7: Remove the battery form the Furnished Middle Frame with plastic flake.
Note: The battery cannot be re-used after disassembly.

Step 8: Disconnect the front camera from the PCBA by tweezers and disconnect the speakers and side key
FPC with solder iron.
(Temperature: Lead-free technology 330±10℃, time: 5-6 seconds)

5.4 Disassembly Notice:

1). About battery disassemble notice:


 The battery can‟t be reused when you disassemble it.
 Improper operation on battery will cause high risk for fire or burning. Thus please follow up the
battery disassembly guidance strictly and pay high attention to the WARNING part. Do not
disassemble battery unless it is necessary.
2). Put all the spare parts on right position (don‟t let all the spare parts mixed and put on the clean place to
avoid vitiated or stained for each spare part) after disassembly.

5.5 Reassembly process

Please make reference to the disassembly process for assembly reverse an order of the disassembly
steps.
Attention:
 When assembling the speakers, pay attention to the positive electrode.

In case the Level 2 repair can‟t solve the problem, or the PCBA is damaged, exchange the PCBA.

8 PCBA exchange

If Level 2 repair does not solve the failure, it is mandatory to change the PCBA and follow the process as
below.

1) Collect the PCBA (without accessories, LCD and camera), MIC should be enclosed when return the
PCBA.

2) Get a new PCBA from the swap stock. Reuse those accessories to assemble the mobile.

3) Fill in the record sticker with IMEI number, fault code, short code, Hardware Technical Level and
software version.

4) Send the NG PCBA with record sticker back to L3 repair center with the recommended packaging
method,

Note: packaging method please refer item “APPENDIX 1 Packaging Requirements”.

9 Other component exchange

The other components exchange such as

1) Speaker

2) Camera

3) Other related mechanical components

Please follow the detail steps 5.3 (Disassembly and assembly process).

But need to be very careful to handle the components with related special tool or jig (especially replacing
new components)

It is better to handle it with plastic tools (plastic tweezers and wedge etc.).

Besides operator must wear anti-static gloves, fingertips or wear static loop during the whole process of
components exchange.

10 Function test

During the function test, the following items must be checked and validated.
1) Cosmetic aspect of the handset,
2) The Software Technical sticker state on the Board
3) Switch on the handset
4) Default welcome message

5) Open “Calculator” application, and input “0x0-0+=” to start the auto test APPENDIX 1 Packaging

Requirements
1. Any L3 PCBA which has appearance like below cases is not acceptable.

 3) Symptom sticker, high temperature adhesive or nonstandard label on PCBA;
Note:
a. Nonstandard label means broken label, label with handwriting, dirty label, label pasted in the wrong
place, etc.
b. L2E label, IMEI label and BSN sticker are acceptable to be kept on PCBA only under the condition
that these labels are intact, clean and smoothly pasted in the right place)

 4) PCBA with liquid or mildew.

2. Packing requirements
a) Wrap PCBA with anti-static bag
Note: please keep the anti-static bag clean and intact, especially not to paste any label on it.

b) Choose box according to shipping quantity. Each slot usually put 4 or 5pcs. (4pcs for big one and
5pcs for small one). Meanwhile, use Wrinkled tape (marking the material code and qty) to
distinguish the PCBA of different code.

c) Put this box into a bigger carton and put a cardboard on top (this is to avoid the PCBA to drop
around during transportation)

d) Symptom list of all returned PCBAs is requested (refer to below table). Please send the electronic
edition to all relevant receivers/departments. If possible, put the hard copy Excel file of L3 PCBA
Symptom description into the carton.
