Management is the process used by corporations to plan and direct operations,
processes, and personnel in order to achieve organisational objectives. When I studied this
subject, I discovered that planning, organising, leading, and controlling are the four main
aspects in management principles and practices. Planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling are all parts of management, which helps the organisation accomplish its
objectives successfully and efficiently. Thus, I want to discuss leadership in this reflection
essay from what I have learned in the whole semester and answered all the questions that
stated.

1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED

Based on what I have learned about this chapter, leadership is one of the processes
through which a person exerts influence over others and inspires, motivates, and directs
their efforts to achieve group or organisational goals. The person who is in charge of
influencing others to forward the objectives of a group or organisation is referred to as the
leader. In order to lead a group, there should be some powers in control. So, there are many
sources of managerial power which are expert power, referent power, reward power,
coercive power, and legitimate power. To lead an organisation or group effectively and
efficiently, the leader must clearly define the goals, encourage, communicate well and
resolve issues.

2. WHAT ARE THE TAKEAWAY

From my perspective, the ability to lead is a skill that can be developed. So, it is not
simply based on personality traits or intrinsic abilities. Leadership can be learned through
education, training, and experience. For example, MGT420 teaches about management and
especially leadership. By putting in the necessary time and effort, even the students can
become a leader. As a university student, it is important to build connections around people.
So, becoming a leader or having a leadership skill will improve your communication skill too.
In addition, being a leader can inspire people and accomplishing goals all depend on one's
capacity to accurately communicate information, listen intently, and define a vision.
3. WHAT ARE THE SKILLS ACQUIRED FROM THIS SUBJECT

The skills that I acquired from this subject is how to lead a group to achieve goals.
For example, I have led my groupmate to do all the assignments together. As a group leader,
I will assign all the tasks in the assignments for my groupmate to work together and achieve
the goals. From this leadership chapter, I am able to apply the participative behavior that is
taught in the path-goal leadership behaviors. I will allow my groupmates to express their own
opinion and ideas on the task, and we will all work to make it better as a result. Moreover, I
can inspire and motivate my groupmate to work towards our vision to finish our tasks. The
skills that I acquired must be able to direct the team, set objectives, develop a strategic plan,
and articulate a compelling vision. Otherwise, I can communicate better with people after I
acquired these skills from this subject. Thus, this subject really helps me to be confident in
leading people to achieve goals effectively and efficiently.

4. WILL YOU BE USING THIS SKILL IN THE FUTURE

Yes indeed that I really want to use this skill in the future. With leadership skills, I am
sure that I can excel in guiding and coaching my workers to build great teamworks, offer my
team members support, opportunities for growth, and advice. I will support my employees in
developing, picking up new skills, and realising their full potential. From what I have learned
before, strong ethical leaders behave honourably, fairly, and with integrity. Thus, I want to act
the same to foster a culture of responsibility and ethical conduct within a group or
organisation.

5. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS THAT YOU ACQUIRED FROM THIS SUBJECT

Many benefits that I acquired in this subject. First and foremost, I can enhance my
decision-making abilities. Being a successful leader must acquire powerful decision-making
abilities to lead a group and achieve goals. The skill makes me gain the ability to evaluate
circumstances, acquire pertinent data, take into account many viewpoints, and make wise
decisions. These abilities will help succeed in every aspect of life by helping make wiser
choices and deal with challenging situations more skillfully. Other than that, leadership will
increase problem-solving skills. After I learned about leadership, all the complex difficulties
and challenges I can deal with the skill that I acquired in this subject. I may improve my
leadership skills by learning to analyse issues, think critically, and come up with original
solutions. I also can overcome challenges, adjust to changes, and promote innovation.
6. WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT THIS SUBJECT

I do like the traits and personal characteristics that can be related to effective
leadership. Hence, the various traits will assist the leaders in enhancing their ability to lead
groups more effectively and efficiently. A good leader must possess good personal
characteristics in order to establish successful management such as creating a positive work
culture. Other than that, I like leadership because it can be others' inspiration. I manage to
encourage and inspire others to realise their full potential. For instance, I can play an
instrument so I really like to inspire people to play and teach them. I may inspire a feeling of
purpose among them by establishing a compelling vision, offering direction, and setting an
excellent example.

7. ANY SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR THIS SUBJECT

I would suggest that leadership skill will be a continuous learning in the future. For
the time being, it will make a commitment to career growth and lifetime learning to every
student. Hence, we will always keep up with the most recent business trends, industry best
practices, and leadership philosophies. For example, the other ways to learn about
leadership skills are to attend conferences, workshops, and seminars on leadership, read
leadership-related publications, and listen to leadership podcasts.

In conclusion, leadership really taught me to be a good leader for an organizational


and to achieve goals. In the end, I manage to make good decision making, inspire people
and create a positive work culture. I really hope that I could apply this skill in the future and
change the management for good. Thus, I can achieve the organizational goals effectively
and efficiently.
