G12 – HUMSS A
INTRODUCTION

There are so many issues in the society that needs to be addressed, practically speaking,

watching pornography has become a normal thing in today’s generation. Young people have

used sexually explicit media to stimulate themselves and satiate their curiosity about nudity and

sexual activity for many years (matilda 2022).

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between watching pornography and

engaging in pre-marital sex. Specifically, we aim to explore whether there is as significant

correlation between pornography use and likelihood of engaging in pre-marital sex, and if so,

what factors may contribute to this relationship.

By examining previous research on this topic and conducting our own study, we hope to shed

like on the complex relationship between pornography use and pre-marital sex, this information

will be valuable for individuals, families, and policy makers as they seek to understand and

address the potential impact of pornography on sexual behaviour and relationships.

Adolescent are expose to pornography due to a variety of factors and it is accepted as a

process of sexual exploration/ normal development of sexuality.(lindsay) However, early

exposure to pornography and unregulated/excess exposure to pornography during the formative

years of adolescence has been seem to have various long term deleterious effects on sexual

maturation, sexual behaviour, internet addiction, and over all personality development, to

safeguard the growing minds of the teens from the harmful effects of pornography.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The topic of premarital sex its relationship to watching pornography is a controversial and

complex issue that has been the subject of match research and debate. while some studies

suggested a link between watching pornography and engaging in premarital sex, others have

found no significant correlation.

One perspective is that pornography use may increase the likelihood of engaging in premarital

sex by normalizing and desensitizing individuals to sexual activity outside of marriage.

additionally., some researchers have suggested that pornography use may lead to a distorted view

of sex.

On the other hand, some studies have found that pornography use those not necessarily lead

to increased sexual activity or risky sexual behaviour. Instead, these studies suggest that other

factors, such as individual attitude and values towards sex, may play a larger role in determining

sexual behaviour.

Overall, the relationship between pornography uses and premarital sex is a complex and

multifaceted issue that requires further research to fully understand.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem of premarital sex as the effect of pornography is a complex issue that has

garnered increasing attention in recent years. With the widespread availability of pornography on

internet, many individuals are being exposed to explicit sexual content at young age, which can

shape their attitudes and beliefs about sex.

One of the main concerns is that exposure to pornography may contribute to an increased

likelihood of engaging premarital sex. Research has suggested that individuals consume

pornography may be more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviours, including having sex at a

younger age and with multiple partners.

Furthermore, pornography can create unrealistic expectation about sex, leading to

dissatisfaction and disappointment in the real-life sexual experiences, including relationship

problems, emotional distress, and sexual dysfunction.

Another issue is the potential impact of pornography on individual’s attitudes towards women

and sexuality. Some studies have suggested that pornography can promote objectification and the

normalization of sexual violence, which can have harmful effects on individuals’ relationship

and contribute to a culture of misogyny and sexual exploitation

Overall, the problem of premarital sex as the effect of pornography is a complex and

multifaceted issue that requires further research and attention to understand its full impact on

individuals and society.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to (anna 2013 Over the years perception about pre-marital sex have been changing
and acceptance is becoming more evident. Based on the results of this study, it was found that
(1) males’ insight on premarital sex is different from the females. Males expressed their
perception as slightly conservative towards pre-marital sex, while females conveyed their
opinion of conservativeness; (2) the source of respondent’s information about sex also vary:
males expressed that they got much of information about sex from mass media while the females
said they got theirs from sex education class in school. The respondents are at their late
adolescence stage they did not absolutely submit to the liberal view on pre-marital sex.

In the study conducted by (Riza IIbert) says that there are many pre-marital behaviours that lead
to the increasing the risk of HIV and other sexual disease. Hence it is important for health
workers especially nurses to be more actively educate about adolescent reproductive health
especially regarding pre-marital sexual behaviour. Loving each other is the main reason to
conduct sexual behaviour, keep virginity is ancient culture; friends invitation become the
encourage factors of premarital sexual behaviour; and sexual behaviour occurrences were not
started by the intention but the instinct.

According to sarwoono Adolescents who engage in early premarital sex, generally do negative
things or things that lead to sexual deviations. this happens because of a shift in social norms
about sexual behaviour among adolescents. Things that were considered taboo among adolescent
in the 1950s such as kissing, and joking are not even justified by today’s teens. There is even a
small percentage who agree on free sex. Not only that, but even many of them have also had sex.
Teenagers who do this are not lowering the opinion of society anymore. (Theresia limbong
2022). Her study concludes that there was a significant relationship between pre- marital sex
knowledge with friends, social environment and also significant relationship between knowledge
and socializing.

According to (woodmen lace aria) pre-marital sexual practice and associated factors among
youths in Debre tabor town, south Gondar zone, north west Ethiopia (2017). The main reason for
initiation of sexual intercourse was due to falling in love, followed by sexual desire, they have
curiosity and urge to experience new phenomena. Nevertheless, youths are exposed to different
circumstances like fears, worries, and different desires. They feel shame to get advice from their
parents and elders. not attending religious education, having boyfriend/girlfriend, watching
pornography fil, alcohol drinkers and came from a rural residing family were identified as risk
factors.
