BL30A0001 Electric Circuits Exercise 1

1. A flashlight is powered by four 1.5 V batteries in series connection. The resistance R of the
lamp is 15 Ω. What is the current I in the circuit? Calculate the power of the flashlight?
(Answer: I = 0.4 A and P = 2.4 W)

2. Write enough equations based on Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s laws for the circuit in Figure 1.
Then, solve from these equations the electric current I2 and the voltage U3. (Answer: I2 =
1.64 A, U3 = 6.55 V)

R1 I1
E = 12 V
I2 I3
U1 R1 = 2 Ω
R2 R3
E U2 R2 = 4 Ω
R3 = 6 Ω

3. DC voltage source is E, output resistance (internal resistance) Rs and load resistance Ru.
How much is the terminal voltage U and the current I in resistance, when E = 15 V, Rs = 1
 and Ru varies between 1 – 7  (Answer: U = 7.5 V – 13.13 V, I = 1.9 – 7.5 A)

4. Current I in capacitance C in time period t = 0...t1 is constant and otherwise zero. Charge Q of
the capacitance is initially zero, so Q0 = 0, when t = 0. Calculate charge Q1 of capacitance and
voltage U1 at time t1, when I = 4 mA, C = 8 F and t1= 0.2 s. How supplying voltage has to
be varied, so that current i remain constant? (Answer U1 = 100 V)
