We are delighted that this is a special year for IBSA, as we celebrate our Silver Jubilee. IBSA was inaugurated on
the sidelines of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Partnership Summit in January 1997, at Calcutta by
the then Prime Minister of the UK, Rt. Hon. John Major, at the behest of the British Council.
Ever since our inception, IBSA has been promoting enduring relations between India and the UK through
Education, Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, Business and Entrepreneurship, as also supporting social causes
including providing scholarships to deserving students for courses at the British Council English Teaching Centre.
A Special Committee Chaired by our Patron Dr. J. J. Irani KBE was formed to plan and have celebratory programs
throughout the year, which began in January 2022 and will end in January 2023. A landmark event in June 2022
- where for the first time ever, IBSA mounted a Scholars Delegation to the UK with 14 members.
With the absorption of new technologies IBSA in additions to some physical programs arranged many diverse and
high quality programs on virtual mode.
2ND JULY, 2021: MYSTERIOUS BLACK HOLES AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
This most interesting webinar jointly organized by IBSA in partnership with CII. Dr. Somak Raychoudhury (Director,
Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics) in conversation with Dr. Debasish Bhattacharjee (Vice
President Technology & New Material Business –Tata Steel; and Chairman Technology & Innovation Council)
presented scientific theories and explore the connect with past, present and future research and technological
opportunities in India.
This Annual General Meeting was truly unique, as it combined the statutory requirements with a Fun Quiz on
Indo-British theme. The entire programme was curated by IBSA’s dynamic Co-Chair of the Youth Council Ashwika
Kapur under the wise counsel of Reetasri Ghosh and Saptarshi Kar.
This special and most informative webinar was jointly hosted by IBSA & Indian Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Rajive
Kaul, President IBSA was in a freewheeling conversation with Mr. Pradeep Sureka, President ICC, Mr. Sumit
Mazumder, Chairman TIL and Corporate Patron IBSA, and Mr. Sanjay Budhia, Managing Director Patton Group
and Corporate Patron IBSA. A bright future for India was highlighted by all the panelists.
This much awaited festive season was ushered in with warm exuberance of IBSA members, family and friends by
coming together and celebrating the Christmas Eve over music, camaraderie, drinks and dinner at the President,
Mr. Rajive Kaul’s residence.
This prestigious annual IBSA programme felicitated Kolkata Police for their exemplary services during the festive
season and pandemic, in the presence of Chief Guest - Police Commissioner of Kolkata, Mr. Soumen Mitra, at the
Heritage Police Limelight building. Six officers were presented with a medal, a token gift of appreciation along
with a certificate.
The members of Bengal Heritage Foundation and IBSA came together over an evening of fellowship and dinner
at the terrace of Bengal Club.
For the very first time, a captivating Indo-British Heritage Cup was held at the prestigious Eden Gardens, hosted
by Bengal Heritage Foundation in association with British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, British Council and
IBSA. The 20-over cricket match saw UK in India, comprising the British Council and the British Deputy High
Commission in Kolkata, and India in UK, composed of members from the BHF and the IBSA.
IBSA kick started the year long Silver Jubilee celebration with Theme Living Bridges- Knowledge and Sustainable
Progress. This was held over Zoom platform. The Chief Guest His Excellency Mr. Alex Ellis, British High
Commissioner to India delivered the Inaugural Address. Dr. Jamshed Irani KBE, Chair of IBSA Silver Jubilee
Celebrations narrated his own personal journey of building Living Bridges between India and UK.
Mr. T. V. Narendran, CII President, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel made special remarks on the Indo
British partnership.
Ms. Barbara Wickham OBE, Director, British Council India sent her message from UK and observed that the
25thAnniversary celebration of IBSA dovetails with British Council’s 75th Anniversary in India in 2023.
Mr. R. Mukundan, Corporate Patron IBSA, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Chemicals made concluding remarks
and delivered the Vote of Thanks.

IBSA along with IIHM and in collaboration with the Young Leaders Forum of ICC organized this very interesting
Hybrid-Live Zoom session at IIHM Kitchen. Chef Asma gave live demonstration of cooking recipes from her
recently released Cookbook while engaging in conversation on her culinary and personal journey with Mr. Rajive
Kaul, President of IBSA and Dr. Suborno Bose, Chairman and CEO, IIHM.

IBSA celebrated the iconic Global day on social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, by
curating a video of IBSA members with #BreakTheBias pose showing their solidarity towards this call for action.
IBSA and British Council jointly hosted a very special session with 2 dynamic women entrepreneurs, Ms. Husna-
Tara Prakash, Founder Glenburn Hospitality and Ms. Preeyam Budhia, President Patton Group in conversation
with Dr. Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director, British Council - East and Northeast India. This followed a very successful
networking dinner for Alumni hosted by British Council at the Taj Bengal Hotel, out of which 7 Alumni eventually
became IBSA’s new members.
IBSA organised this very special webinar in collaboration with Imperial College London and CII. The distinguished
panel included Prof. Alice Gast, President, Imperial College, London; Dr Simon Hepworth, Director of Enterprise,
Imperial College, London; Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Former President CII, Chairman CII National Start-up Council and
Chairman, Hero Enterprise, were in conversation with Mr. Rajive Kaul, President IBSA.
On IBSA’s Silver Jubilee Year, our outstanding team of Hon. Secretary Saptarshi Kar, Chair of Programs Reetasri
Ghosh and Youth Council Chair Ashwika Kapur had organised a truly wonderful Photography contest in
partnership with the British Deputy High Commission and Earth Day Network, to mark the World Environment
Day this year. The contest was open to all age group (Junior and Senior) with the theme ‘Only One Earth’.
This all India contest attracted over 430 entries of extremely high quality photographs from 115 cities. The panel
of Judges comprised of Mr. Yemi Odanye (British Deputy Head of Mission, Kolkata), Ms. Karuna Singh (Regional
Director, Asia, EARTHDAY.ORG) and Ms. Ashwika Kapur (Natural History Filmmaker, Chair, Youth Council IBSA).
As part of the Silver Jubilee celebration, IBSA took a special Scholars Delegation to UK from June 20th-29th
2022. The object of this landmark event was to strengthen the India-UK connect through sustainable progress
and explore opportunities and scope of collaboration on academic front, industry linkages and hospitality
services. The IBSA delegation comprises of Business leaders including Women Entrepreneurs and Academic
leaders.

for COVID 19
On a Cruise Ride
IBSA and British Council Kolkata jointly organised a special evening on 14th July 2022 at British Council with three
outstanding speakers discussing how progression has evolved in a gendered society. They shared fascinating
experiences as they scaled the heights of success in their respective fields.
Dr Scott Taylor (Associate Professor & Director of External Engagement, University of Birmingham), joined us on
a virtual platform. The panel included Prof. Usha Menon (Professor of Gynaecological Oncology, MRC Clinical
Trials Unit at UCL, London), Ms. Urmi Basu (Founder & Executive Director, New Light) and Prof. Niladri Ranjan
Chatterjee (Professor of English and Gender Studies, Kalyani University). Discussion was moderated by Ms.
Radhika Singh (Director Transformation, British Council.
IBSA had organized a fun evening at the British Club for IBSA members and friends to come together over
refreshments, great music and laughter. Three cheers to Pub Night organised by IBSA and many more to come!
A cheque of Rs. Two Lac was given to British Council towards Scholarship fund for needy children
As in the past, IBSA continues to provide scholarships for needy and deserving candidates to study English at the
British Council. As against the 100 scholarships target to be achieved by the end of our Silver Jubilee Year, we
have already crossed the funding for 90 scholarships. Amongst the many scholarships which have been generally
provided, a large number of candidates have been benefited from Swayam, Aravani Arts Project, Cricket
Association of Bengal and other cricket academies as also the Kolkata Police. Both IBSA and British Council are
delighted to report that one of our sponsored candidates went on to become the first Lok Adalat Judge from the
transgender community.

FINANCE
The Accounts for the year ended 31.03.2022 have been prepared and audited, these are attached. The Auditor’s
Report together with the Income and Expenditure account and Balance Sheet as on 31.03.2022 circulated to the
members, are available for inspection. Your Executive Committee is pleased to report that there was an excess
of income over expenditure by INR 20.46 Lacs.
The members of the Executive Committee elected in 2020 will retire in 2022. The following members served on
