President
Prof. S. C. Rajora

Greetings to you all!

It is a matter of satisfaction for all of us that we have

been making the best efforts to reach out to young
scholars with the support of senior members of RSA.

It was brought to our notice that our discipline has

been ignored while opening new subjects in schools as
well as in newly established government colleges. We
tried to make representation and personal contact with
the concerning officials in order to justify the
relevance and need of teaching and research in
Sociology in the present scenario.

Friends, a theory of demand and supply is applicable

for the survival of any product. Obviously academic
field is no exception. Same stands true to our subject.
We know that birth of Sociology was a demand of its
social milieu and its’ significance was proved by its
the founding fathers and their successors.

With the passage of time, scholars from Sociology
have made their presence felt in several areas apart
from teaching, research, surveys and investigations.
Demand of trained sociologists is gaining ground in
many fields.

Therefore, RSA stresses on equipping its members

with desired skills. Hence we have been focusing to
organize regional workshops for young writers and
researchers, further, to explore and identify the
volunteers who may join us to carry forward the
mantle of Sociology. Certain constraints and hurdles
always remain there, still we are determined to pursue
it further.

XXVI RSA conference 2019 was organized in S.D.

Government College Beawar, on 11-12 October 2019.
Efforts are on for finding suitable partner for holding
XXVII annual conference in 2020 and you will be
informed well in time once it is fixed. Look forward to
your continued support and encouraging participation.

Dear RSA Members,

Greetings!
Year 2019 was an eventful year for RSA and your support
overwhelming. Since the XI issue of RSA Newsletter in
November 2018, RSA organized two annual conferences for
2018 and 2019. The writer’s workshop based on our inhouse
module, which started in 2018 has covered reasonable
ground and we were able to organize a number of such
workshops in different parts of Rajasthan benefiting a host of
researchers and scholars. The present issue of the newsletter
provides snapshots of these events.
This issue is a bit delayed due to unforeseen reasons beyond
one’s control but it is better late than never! However, be
assured to have the next issue well in time. It is needless to
say that please keep sharing your achievements, felicitations
and events of sociological interests at your organizations
with us so that we cover these in the newsletter for visibility
amongst our members. Do we need to say that we value it
most and you inspire and encourage us all!
Your comments and feedbacks help us improve. Do write in
with your reactions on the issue.
Look forward to deeper and improved sociological
understanding and a better society to live in for us all!

 XXV RSA Conference - 2018
Contemporary India
Prospects, Challenges and Responses
Rajasthan Sociological Association (RSA)
XXV annual conference was organized
successfully by the Department of
Sociology, Govt. Arts Girls College, Kota on
20- 21 December, 2018 under Organizing
Secretaryship of Dr Subodh Kumar.
Conference theme was CONTEMPORARY
INDIA: PROSPECTS, CHALLENGES
AND RESPONSES. Theme embodied
multifarious issues emerging in the age of
technologically aided fast paced society and
its various ramifications needing to be
observed, thoroughly examined, analysed
and interpreted from different perspectives.
More than 500 participants from all over
India and Bangladesh participated in the
Conference and made it a big success with
their presence and participation during two
days. Renowned Sociologist Prof. Anand
Kumar, Anthropologist Prof Vinay
Shrivastav, Prof. K. L. Sharma, Prof. Naresh
Bharagav, Prof. Rajiv Gupta, Prof. Mohan
Advani, Prof. Fouzia Mannan, Prof. S. C.
Rajora among several others shared their
thoughts and enlightened the participants
with their knowledge.
There were six technical sessions and two
panel discussions during the conference
which thread bare discussed pertinent
issues being faced by the contemporary
Indian Society. Remarkable number of
young scholars’ participation was
observed in the conference.
The decadal issue of the Journal of
Rajasthan Sociological Association was
also released during the conference and
life-time achievement awards were
conferred upon exemplary sociologists of
Rajasthan for their work and
accomplishments to Prof. Kirti Rajimwale
(JNVU, Jodhpur) and Dr. R. K. Saxena,
Bikaner.
The conference had remarkable inter-
disciplinary as well as local participation.
The organization of the conference
epitomized the teamwork spirit of the staff
members of the college and
administration’s willingness to put through
an academic excellence despite challenges
and paucity of resources.

Socio-Cultural and Technological Transformation
Global and Indian
XXVI RSA annual conference was
held at Department of Sociology,
Sanatan Dharm Government College
Beawar (Ajmer) on 11-12 October,
2019. Dr. Alok Kumar Meena was the
organizing secretary.
Professor Maitrayee Chaudhuri from
CSSS, JNU, New Delhi enlightened
the delegates with her eloquent and
insightful keynote address.
XI issue of Rajasthan Journal of
Sociology was released during the
conference and lifetime achievement
Awards for 2019 was conferred upon
three eminent sociologists namely
Prof. Kailash Nath Vyas, Jodhpur;
Prof. Sushila Jain, Jaipur; and Prof.
Hanuman Gujrati, Beawar for their
exemplary work in the field of
Sociology in Rajasthan.
About 300 deligates participated in the
conference which included national
and international scholars apart from
RSA members.
Third I P Modi Memorial Oration was
delivered by Prof. Anand Kumar who
also gave valedictory speech in the
conference.
Many eminent sociologists like Prof. B
K Nagla, Prof. Mohan Advani, Prof. N
K Bhargava, Prof. C L Sharma among
others graced the event with their
thought and guidance.
The annual general body meeting of
RSA and Executive committee
meeting were also held and a number
of organizational issues were
discussed.

Prof. Kailash
Nath Vyas

Prof. Vyas, a veteran from Jain Narayan

Vyas University, Jodhpur was one of the
three recipients of RSA Lifetime
Achievement Award 2019. After 32 years
of active academic service, he is a
professor emeritus at JNVU at present.
Born in 1952, Prof. Vyas is known for his
amiable personality and engaging oration.
He has been a popular teacher and
dedicated social researcher.

Apart from discharging several academic

and co-curricular responsibilities during his
service, he pursued his research interest in
women education, problems of weaker
sections of the society and research
methodology.

He is the author of eleven books, three

edited books and thirty two research
papers.

 RSA Lifetime Awardee - 2019

Prof. Sushila
Jain

Education unfolds the wings of head and heart

together. The job of a teacher is to push the
students out of the nest to strengthen their wings.
This beautiful quote perfectly depicts the
personality of Prof. Sushila Jain – the second
recipient of RSA lifetime achievement Award
2019. She was born in 1949 and taught in her
own Alma Mater - University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
She adorned a number of positions in the
university and retired as a Professor in Sociology
in 2009. She excelled in teaching and her
students remember her as a dedicated and
sincere teacher.

Prof. Jain is a keen researcher. Fourteen scholars

have been awarded doctorate under her
supervision. She also has the credit of authoring
two important books namely ‘Muslims and
modernization’ as well as ‘Youth, Media and
Social Change’. She has contributed through a
number of research papers in reputed Journals
and edited volumes.

राजस्थान महाविद्यालय विक्षा सेिा में तीन दिकों से अविक सेिा प्रदान कर
िततमान में सेिा-वनिृत होकर विक्षा एिं िोि के स्तर पर अभी भी सविय
आचायत हनमु ान गज ु राती ने राजस्थान में समाजिास्त्र को व्यािहाररक एिं
िैक्षविक स्तर पर सदु रू क्षेत्रों में पहुँचाने का श्रेयस्कर कायत वकया है। प्रो.
गज ु राती िर्त 2019 के आजीिन उपलब्धि सम्मान प्राप्त करने िाले तीसरे
समाजिास्त्री हैं। आप आजीिन समाजिास्त्र के एक गभ ं ीर अध्येता रहे हैं एिं
विर्य की अवजतत वििेर्ज्ञता को जीिटता के साथ वजया है। आप राजस्थान
समाजिास्त्र पररर्द ्के प्रारंवभक सम्माननीय सदस्यों में से हैं और 1975 से
2011 के दौरान पदस्थापन पर जहाुँ भी आप रहे, समाजिास्त्रीय विमित को
कें द्र में लाने का प्रयास वकया। इस दौरान आपने बहसख् ं य राष्ट्रीय और
अतं रातष्ट्रीय गोवियों और पररचचातओं में सामावजक िवं चतों, वस्त्रयों,
मानिाविकार हनन और पयातिरिीय सक ं ट के मद्दु ों पर बौरिक हस्तक्षेप करते
रहे।
प्रो. गज ु राती ने सन ् 1975 में प्रवतकूल सामावजक और पाररिाररक
पररब्स्थवतयों के होते हए भी राजस्थान विश्वविद्यालय जयपरु से स्नातकोत्तर-
समाजिास्त्र की उपावि स्िित पदक के साथ प्राप्त कर एक वमसाल प्रस्ततु की
और पीवियों को प्रेररत करते रहे। आपने अपने िैक्षविक जीिन की िरुु आत
उसी िर्त हाड़ौती के राजकीय महाविद्यालय बारां से की एिं तदन्तर के कड़ी,
भीलिाड़ा, कोटा, धयािर और झन्ु झनु ू के राजकीय महाविद्यालयों में योग्य
एिं लोकवप्रय समाजिास्त्र प्राध्यापक के रूप में अपनी छाप छोड़ी। आपने
स्नातक महाविद्यालय प्राचायत के रूप में मेड़तावसटी और जेतारि में तथा
राजकीय कन्या महाविद्यालय झालािाड़ में स्नातकोत्तर प्राचायत के रूप में
पदस्थावपत रहते हए प्रिासवनक कुिलता और िैक्षविक नेतत्ृ ि का श्रेि
पररचय वदया।

 2019 was a very fruitful year in terms of reaching out to young writers and
sociologists in the state. First of all, the module which was developed by
RSA provided basis for a writers workshop in Vanasthali Vidyapeeth. An
appreciable number of Vidyapeeth teaching staff members participated in
that workshop and benefited from it.
From 15-21 September, 2019, a seven days writing and research
methodology workshop was organized at BN University Udaipur workshop
by Dr. Paresh Dwivedi under the aegis of RSA.
The third RSA writers’ workshop was organized by Dr. Deepak Pancholi at
MP PG College, Chittorgarh from 26-28 September, 2019.

सबं ोवित वकया | आयोजन सवचि डा. परेि वििेदी ने कायतिाला की सम्पितू रूपरेखा प्रस्ततु की तथा कायतिम का सञ्चालन RSA सदस्य डा. श्रवु त टंडन ने
वकया | उद्घाटन समारोह में RSA के पितू अद्यक्ष प्रो. मोहन अडिािी, राजस्थान जनतल ऑफ़ सोवियोलॉजी के मख् ु य सम्पादक प्रो. नरेि भागति, प्रो. एम. एस.
ु सवचि डा. लललत कुमाित के साथ पररर्द ्के अन्य सदस्य और विश्वविद्यालय के सक
वत्रिेदी, डा. रमाकांत िमात, राजस्थान समाजिास्त्र पररर्द ्के सयं क्त ं ाय
सदस्य भी उपब्स्थत रहे |
कायतिाला में िोिपत्र लेखन की बारीवकयों को समझकर प्रवतभागीयों ने अपने िोिपत्र की रूपरेखा तैयार करने का अभ्यास वकया | साथ ही िोि विवि के
विवभन्न चरिों को समझकर, िोि विर्य के अनसु ार tools-techniques एिं समक ं विश्लेर्ि करना सीखा | प्रथम तीन वदन में िोिपत्र तैयार करने के
ललए सम्बवं ित िोि पवत्रकाओं के आिश्यक वदिा वनदेि, सामग्री का प्रबिं न, सावहत्य समीक्षा, नोट्स बनाना, Abstract, Keywords, लेखन के
विवभन्न चि, citation के तरीके , सन्दभत सची, ू ग्रन्थ सची
ू (bibliography) एिं िोि पत्र के अस्िीकृ त होने के कारिों के बारें में समझकर अभ्यास
वकया | उल्लेखनीय है वक कायतिाला में राजस्थान समाजिास्त्र पररर्द ्िारा वनिातररत module के अनसु ार PPT प्रदितन एिं अभ्यास कायत िमिः चलते
रहे | Research Methodology िाले भाग में िोि के महत्िपितू चरिों को समझकर सम्बवं ित अभ्यास कायत करते हए SPSS की उपयोवगता को
भी समझा तथा प्रवतभावगयों ने अपने स्िय ं के laptop पर प्रासवं गक applications का अभ्यास वकया |
कायतिाला में समाजिास्त्र के साथ अन्य विर्यों के िोिावथतयों, विक्षकों सवहत कुल 60 प्रवतभावगयों ने उत्साहपितू सवियता के साथ भागीदारी वनभाई |
Resourse Persons के रूप में प्रो. नरेि भागति, प्रो. मोहन अडिािी, प्रो. एम ्. एस. वत्रिेदी का मागत दितन भी प्राप्त हआ | Research
Methodology एिं SPSS के वििेर् प्रविक्षि के ललए प्रो. बी. एस. नेगी (वदल्ली) ने तीन वदन प्रवतभावगयों के साथ अतं वित यात्मक तरीके से
उल्लेखनीय योगदान वकया | कायतिाला के समापन समारोह की मख् ु य अवतवथ ‘राजस्थान जनतल ऑफ़ सोवियोलॉजी’ की सपं ादक डा. मृद ुला वत्रिेदी थी |

 तीन वदिसीय लेखन कायि त ाला
महारािा प्रताप स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय, वचत्तौरगि
राजस्थान समाजिास्त्र पररर्द ्के तत्त्िाििान में राजकीय पीजी महाविद्यालय, वचत्तौरगि में डॉ दीपक पचं ोली, समाजिास्त्र विभाग के सयं ोजन में वदनांक
26-28 वसतम्बर, 2019 के दौरान तीन वदिसीय लेखन कायतिाला का आयोजन हआ। कायतिाला में वचत्तौड़ क्षेत्र के 15 महाविद्यालयों एिं समाजिास्त्र
के अवतररक्त मानविकी , विज्ञान, विवि तथा िाविज्य के िोिावथतयों एिं सहायक आचाययं सवहत लगभग 40 प्रवतभावगयों ने भाग ललया। कायतिाला के
दौरान आर एस ए के मॉड्यूल के अनरूु प िोि पत्र लेखन की बारीवकयों को सविस्तार समझाया गया। कायतिाला के तीनो ही वदन प्रो. एस सी राजोरा, डॉ
आितु ोर् व्यास एिं टी एन द ुबे उपब्स्थत रहे और प्रवतभावगयों को विवभन्न अभ्यासों के माध्यम से िोि कौिल को पररष्कृ त करने में सहयोग वदया। िररि
समाजिास्त्री डॉ के सी िमात एिं डॉ एस एल मेनाररया ने भी अपने विचारों से प्रवतभावगयों का मागतदितन वकया। महाविद्यालय के प्राचायत श्री राके ि द ुग्गड़
एिं िररि सक ं ाय सदस्य डॉ के एस कंग ने ऐसी कायतिाला की आिश्यकता पर बल वदया और आर एस ए को ऐसे आयोजन के ललए आभार व्यक्त वकया।
समाजिास्त्र विभाग के सदस्य डॉ हेमलता महािर, डॉ मक ु े ि आहूजा एिं राजनीवत विज्ञान के डॉ भरत िैष्िि ने प्रवतभावगता एिं कुिल प्रबिं न िारा
कायतिाला को सफल बनाने में महत्त्िप ूित योगदान वदया। तीन वदनों के कायतिम के प ूित होने पर समाजिास्त्र एिं अन्य विर्यों के प्रवतभावगयों ने कायतिाला
को अपने िोि एिं लेखन के ललए बहत उपयोगी बताया।

 Young generation of Sociologists at Udaipur have Set an example for
other places to emulate. They value their teachers and find opportunities
to make them feel special which they, in fact, are! 2019 was an year
when at three different occasions, three senior and retired professors
of sociology were felicitated and their works were discussed under the aegis of
Samajshastra Vichar Manch,Udaipur. Prof. NK Bhargava was felicitated
on 17 th February, 2019 by his students and scholars at BN University, Udaipur.
It was 28 th of July 2019 when Professor C L Sharma was honored in the
premises of Shramjivi College. Prof. Mohan Advani was similarly felicitated on 5 th
November, 2019 at Udaipur.

 Orienting Future Sociologists

An interactive lecture on ‘careers in sociology’ was held on 29th January 2019 at

Department of Sociology, Sophia Girls Post Graduate College (autonomous), Ajmer, in
which Professor S.C. Rajora, president Rajasthan Sociological Association, interacted
with the students.

The discussion started with the basic question as to why one should opt Sociology for
Post Graduate studies and it went on to discuss what are the career opportunities in
sociology?

Professor Rajora explained and focussed on areas such as teaching, survey, research and
community services along with the extension activities which a student of Sociology
after doing PG may take up as career. They were sensitised that one’s performance,
commitment, devotion, communication skill and research aptitude play crucial role in
attaining success. Students were briefed about the following career trajectories:

• Teaching as a profession, both at school and college/university level, IITs,

professional institutes, survey research and training centres, security service centres,
officers’ training schools and many such areas.
• Survey and research as a profession, in regional as well as global institutes, research
and development departments of industries, companies involved in market surveys,
survey and research projects under the regional, national and international
programmes, educational surveys, health surveys, surveys conducted by electronic
and print media and so on.
• Community and extension activities as a profession with institutions and
organisations working exclusively for this purpose or such efforts may be initiated
on one’s own.

Participants showed keenness in understanding the positions, packages and the sources
of funding related to each career path. They also responded that prior to the interaction,
they did not know much about the discussed career scope in Sociology.

 Prof. S. L. Sharma
Prof. S. L. Sharma, UoR, Jaipur successfully participated in LEAP India program
(Leadership for Academician program), an initiative taken up by Ministry of
Human Resource Development, in October 2018 to impart training to
Academician in the country from universities/institutions of higher education in
order to train the second generation for academic leadership. In this regard,
three weeks training (two weeks domestic visit and one week foreign visit) was
undertaken by Prof. Sharma. Two weeks training program was organized by
Indian Institute of Science Education & Research ( IISER), Kolkata from 11th to
22nd February 2019 & one week training was imparted by Harvard Graduate
school of Education (USA) from 6th to 10th March 2019.
