KONARK SUN TEMPLE


Konark Sun Temple, located in Konark, Odisha, is
Architect : Bishu Maharan
dedicated to the Hindu sun god Surya, what
remains of the temple complex has the
appearance of a 100-foot high chariot with
immense wheels and horses, all carved from
stone.
It is a classic illustration of the Odisha style of
Architecture or Kalinga Architecture. Konark
Sun Temple is depicted on the reverse side of
the Indian currency note of 10 rupees to signify
its importance to Indian Cultural Heritage .
MAHABODHI TEMPLE
The Mahabodhi Temple or The Mahabodhi
Architect : Emperor Ashoka
Mahavihara, a UNESCO world heritage site,
is an ancient, but rebuilt and restored
Buddhist Temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India

KAILASANATHAR TEMPLE
The Kailasanathar Temple is a Pallava-era
historic Hindu temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Architect : Narasimhavarman ll
Nadu. Dedicated to Shiva, it is one of the
oldest surviving monuments in Kanchipuram.
It reflects a Dravidian Architecture. It is
of stone built Architecture.

The tall gopuram is to the left and the


temple complex is to the right. The temples
foundations are made of granite, which
could withstand the weight of the temple.
VENKATESHVARA TEMPLE
The Sri Venkateshvara Swami Temple is a
Hindu temple situated in the hill town of
Tirumala at Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh.
Dedicated to Venkateshvara, a form of
Vishnu, who is believed to have appeared
on the earth to save mankind from trials
and troubles of Kaliyuga. The temple is
also known by other names like Tirumala
temple, Tirupati temple and Tirupati
Balaji temple.
The temple is constructed in Dravidian
Architectural style.
SHORE TEMPLE
The Shore Temple is a complex of temples and

shrines that overlooks the shore of the Bay of
Bengal. It is located in Mahabalipuram, south
of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. It is a structural
temple, built with blocks of granite. It has
been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. It is one of the oldest structural stone
temples of Southern India.

All the three temples of the Shore Temple


complex are built on the same platform.
RANGANATHASWAMI TEMPLE
Sri Ranganathaswami temple is dedicated
to Ranganatha( a form of Vishnu) located
in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. Constructed in
the Dravidian Architectural style.

The temple is enclosed by 7 concentric


enclosures with courtyards. Each layer
has walls and gopurams. The temple is
aligned to the North-South and
East-West axis, on an Iceland surrounded
by the Kaveri River.
KHAJURAHO TEMPLE
The Khajuraho group of monuments are a Most Khajuraho temples were
group of Hindu and Jain temples in built by the Chandela dynasty.
Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. They are

considered as one of the “Seven
Wonders” of India. The temples are

LINGARAJA TEMPLE
Lingaraja temple is dedicated to Shiva
and is one of the oldest temple in
Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The central tower
of the temple is 180 feet tall. The

The Lingaraja temple face East and is


built of sandstone and laterite. It is
believed to have been built by the
Somvanshi King Yayati l.
PADMANABHASWAMI TEMPLE

built in an intricate fusion of the Chera
style and the Dravidian style of

MEENAKSHI TEMPLE
Meenakshi Temple is a historic Hindu Architect : Emperor Sadayavarman
temple located in the temple city of kulasekaran
Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to
goddess Meenakshi, a form of Parvathi,
and her consort Sundareshwarar, a form
of Shiva.

The principle deity of the Meenakshi,


which has been carved in emerald hued
stone. The bottom part of the temple is
made from granite while its tower are
made from limestone.
