ETHOS

In my point of view, students should be set homework.

To begin with, homework helps students to memorize their lessons. After a day
of studying, students may relax and forget about what they learn that day.
Homework helps them to remember the main ideas of the lesson. Duke University
psychology professor Harris Cooper, who found evidence of a positive correlation
between homework and student achievement, meaning students who did
homework performed better in school.
Secondly, homework is much more than just completing the assigned tasks.
Homework can develop time management skills, forcing students to plan their
time and make sure that all of their homework assignments are done on time.
Cooper’s report noted that homework is also thought to improve study habits,
attitudes toward school, self-discipline, inquisitiveness and independent problem
solving skills. In conclusion, I strongly believe students should be set homework.

LOGOS
In my opinion, students should be set homework.
Firstly, homework allows for more time to complete the learning process.
School hours are not always enough time for students to really understand core
concepts, and homework can counter the effects of time shortages, benefiting
students in the long run, even if they can’t see it in the moment. Tom Sherrington,
a Headteacher at a UK secondary school and influential education blogger, has
expressed his personal views on the value of homework: ‘Students who are
successful at A Level and at GCSE are those who have highly developed
independent learning skills, have the capacity to lead the learning process
through their questions and ideas’.

Additionally, homework can be something that gets parents involved in their

children’s lives if the environment is a healthy one. A parent helping their child
with homework makes them take part in their academic success, and allows for
the parent to keep up with what the child is doing in school. It can also be a
chance to connect together. A second UK teacher and education blogger, Rachel
Jones, commented on what she believes to be the purpose of homework and
found that it had a positive impact on both retention of knowledge and hand-in
rates when the homework set was assigned with the intention to ‘develop
learners knowledge and allow them more choice in how they express their work’.
To sum up, I think students should be set homework.

PATHOS
For years, teachers and parents thought that homework was a necessary tool
when educating children. And in my opinion, I think that homework is necessary
for students to do.
To begin with, homework creates a connection between the student, the
teacher, the school, and the parents. It allows everyone to get to know each other
better, and parents can see where their children are struggling. When I was just a
kid, I didn’t understand my homework so I asked my mother to help me. Then my
mom pointed my problem and told me the solution for the exercise. After that,
my mom gave me some extra exercises that could help me to understand the
problem.
Additionally, homework can be seen as another extracurricular activity, and
many families already invest a lot of time and money in different clubs and
lessons to fill up their children’s extra time. Just like extracurricular activities,
homework can be fit into one’s schedule. My sister and I used to spend lots of
hours watching cartoon on the television. But when we got to school, we didn’t
have time for television and we have much better eyesight now.
So in short, I think that we don’t need to do too much homework for a day,
but we should do a small amount to revise the lesson.
