1. A beekeeper would like to produce a number of queen bees by grafting. The queen bees
produced will then be sold to other beekeepers. Describe, step by step, how the beekeeper
can do this.
(K&U 5.1 – 8 marks)

2. Most beekeepers mark the queen bee. Outline how beekeepers mark the queen bee using a
marker pen. In you explanation you should also include how the queen bee is safely handled
and any tools which the beekeepers may use for this. Mention also what precautions are
taken when marking the queen bee and what international colour code beekeepers follow
when marking the queen bee.

3. The mating process between virgin queen bees and drones is explained in detail by I.Davis
and R.Cullum-Keynon in their book The BBKA Guide to Beekeeping. Explain, using your own
words, how the mating process occurs.

4. Two products obtained from beekeeping are honey and propolis. For the two mentioned
products, describe how they are extracted to show the differences in the process of each
product. For each product you should describe what happens, step by step, until the product
is in a glass jar ready to be sold. Remember to mention any tools/equipment that are used in
each process.
