Introductory Message

Welcome to TLE 9 - AFA Animal Production (Large Ruminants)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Kabankalan City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic
Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is a self-directed instructional material aimed


to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using
the contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

I. Learning Competency with Code


Applying safety measures in farm operations (TLE_AFAAPR 9-

Objective: Use tools and materials according to specification and
procedures

II. Background Information for Learners

Hand Tools and Garden Tools

Hand tools and garden tools are usually light and are used without
the help of animals or machines. They are being used in performing farm
activities.

Pick-mattock is used for digging canals breaking


hard topsoil and for digging up stones and tree stumps.

Grab-hoe is used for breaking hard topsoil and


pulverizing soil.

Spade is used for removing trash, soil, and animal


manure.

Shovel is used in removing trash, animal manure,


digging loose soil, moving soil from one place to another
and for mixing soil media.

Rake is used for cleaning ground.

Spading Fork is used for turning over the materials


in a compost heap.

Light hoe is used for loosening and leveling soil
and digging out furrows for planting grasses for feeding.

Hand Trowel is used for loosening the soil around


the growing plants and putting small amount of manure
fertilizer in the soil.

Hand cultivator is used for cultivating the garden


plot by loosening the soil and removing weeds around
the plant.

Hand fork is used for inter row cultivation.

Pruning shears is for cutting branches of


planting materials and unnecessary branches of plants.

Knife is for cutting planting materials and for


slaughtering animals.

Sprinklers are used for watering seedlings and


young plants.

Water pails are used for hauling water, manure


and fertilizers.

Sprayers is used for spraying.

Wheel barrow is used for hauling trash, manures,


fertilizers, planting materials and other equipment

Sickle is a hand-held agricultural tool with a


variously curved blade typically used for cutting weeds.

Measuring Tools

These materials measure dimension of an object,


a thing or structures. These are used doing
construction of housing and maintenance.

Materials

1. Bottle. It is a container for liquids, usually made


of glass or plastic.

2. Plastics. These are wide range of synthetic or


semi-synthetic materials that use polymers as a
main ingredient. Their plasticity makes it possible
for plastics to be molded, extruded or pressed into
solid objects of various shapes.

3. Bags. Bags can be made of cloth, or sack and


plastic used for storing and carrying goods.

Sack. It is a large bag made of a strong material


such as burlap, thick paper, or plastic, used for
storing and carrying goods.

5. Syringe. Used for injecting vaccines when


initiating medication program.
