CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

Anxiety defined as an abnormal and overwhelming sense of

apprehension and fear often marked by physical signs. This study aims to

determine the stress level of G12 HUMSS learners in Balasan National High

School.

Research Design

In this study, Quantitative research method was used. A mathematically

and statistically based method were used by the study examined the statistically

significant differences between male and female anxiety level among G12

HUMSS Senior High School learners. The research design used by the

researchers to determine the anxiety level of the participants was Correlational

Research Design. A research design that investigates relationships between

variables without the researcher controlling or manipulating any of them. A

Correlation reflects the strength and/or direction of the relationship between two

(or more) variables. The direction of a Correlation can be either positive or

negative.

Respondent of the Study

The participants of this study are Senior High School Grade 12 HUMSS learners

in Balasan National High School. The participants are deemed suitable selected

at random by the Researcher.

Sampling Technique

In this study, Purposive Sample or Judgmental Sample will be used.

Purposive Sample or Judgmental Sample is a kind of sampling technique that the

selection is based on the judgment of the researcher. They are the people with

an interest in the study and possess capability and experience in the said topic.

The rationale for choosing this technique was that the researchers was

determining the anxiety level of Senior High School Grade 12 HUMSS learners

in Balasan National High School. The result of the checklist will be the evidence

of how we determine the 10 participants of this study.

Sampling Technique and the Sample Size

In this study, Simple Random Sampling will be used. A simple random sample is

a randomly selected subset of a population. In this sampling method, each

member of the population has an exactly equal chance of being selected.

The total population of 336 HUMSS learners in Grade 12 who were selected at

randomly from Senior High School learners in Balasan National High School

served as the basis for the selection of respondents. The estimated sample size,

calculated using Slovin’s formula, is 270 Filipino senior high school students in

grades 11 and 12.

The researcher used straightforward methods of random sampling to ensure that

all senior high school students in the Balasan National High School had an equal

chance of being chosen as the study’s participants.

The total population of 336 Grade 12 HUMSS Senior High School learners. The

sample Size, calculated using Slovin’s formula, is 183 from 68 male and 155

female participants in the study.

The selected respondents are Filipino senior high school students in grades 11

and 12, who attend a variety of universities and colleges in Metro Manila that

offer high schools with senior years. The respondents in the study are deemed

suitable are selected at random by the researcher.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data needed will be collected through checklist using Academic

Anxiety Scale (AAS). Checklist is a structured data collection method that

contains a list of specific symptoms, behaviors, or indicators of anxiety.

Checklists are relatively and quick to administer. The participants can easily

select and mark the relevant items that apply to their experience of anxiety. The

checklist will be given to the selected participants in the classroom at the

candidates’ preferred time, without threats or compulsion.

Data Analysis Procedure

Data analysis will be conducted using thematic analysis. Thematic

analysis is a method for analyzing qualitative data that involves reading through a

set of data and looking for patterns in the meaning of the data to find themes. It is

an active process of reflexivity in which the researcher’s subjective experience is

at the center of making sense of the data. The analysis will involve identifying

and categorizing themes and patterns in the data. The data will be coded and

analyzed using the transcription that will be done by the researchers. The

analysis will be conducted by ten researchers, and inter-rater reliability will be

established.
