Introduction to On-Demand Lab Environment

Important Information

• Chrome 18 or higher is the recommended browser.


• Other supported browsers include Firefox 13 or higher, Safari 7 (Mac), Internet
Explorer (10 or higher).
• Browser settings should accept cookies, run JavaScript, and allow web sockets.
• Due to the complexity and size, this vApp can take 10 minutes to load and start.
• Go to the Bandwidth Test, Browser Compatibility, and Connectivity Test for
VLP for performance issues or problems accessing the VMware® Learning
Platform.

Connect to the Lab Environment


Use the VMware® Learning Platform (VLP) lab environment to complete the lab
exercises. If in a classroom, use a personal computer or a student system. If taking
the course online, use a home system.

To connect to the VLP lab environment, follow these steps:

1. Launch the Chrome browser, and then go to


http://edulab.emc.com/emcedu/catalogs/.

2. If in an Instructor-led or class or an virtual class, log in using the instructor


provided credentials.

Username:_______________

3. In the upper right corner of the browser, click Help > Tips to review helpful
information.

4. In the panel on the left, locate the lab environment under Enrollments to start.

Explore the Environment


This lab covers NetWorker software installation and configuration for a single data
zone. Backup and recovery procedures using a PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition
are covered in the Dell NetWorker Administration Lab. Review the servers and
applications.

1. From the CONSOLES panel on the left, unlock the console for the NMC host.
Sign in with the following credentials:

User name: DellEMC\Administrator

Password: Student1!

2. The desktop contains two text files that are named Network and Passwords.
These files contain all the DNS names, IP addresses, and passwords for the
environment.

3. If any consoles are not accessible, use the POWER RESET option at the top
of the console.

NetWorker Server Installation

NetWorker Server Installation

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to install NetWorker Server software in the lab
environment.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install the NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE).
• Install NetWorker server and authentication software.
• Configure NetWorker Authentication.

Install NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)


Locate and install the prerequisite NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)
software.

4. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NW console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Login: root

Password: Student1!

5. Change to the /software directory. Type the following commands:

cd /software

ls -l

6. Install the NetWorker Runtime Environment software with the following


command:

rpm -ivh nre-linux*.rpm

7. Configure the NRE software with the following command:

/opt/nre/nreconfig.sh

Verify that the configuration completed.

Install NetWorker Server and Authentication Services on Linux


Locate and install NetWorker server software.

8. On the NW console, list the contents of the /software directory with the
following command:

ls -l

9. The required packages must be installed in the following order: NetWorker


client, extended client, storage node, server, and the authentication service.

Install the NetWorker packages with the following command:

rpm -ivh lgtoclnt*.rpm lgtoxtdclnt*.rpm lgtonode*.rpm


lgtoserv*.rpm lgtoauthc*.rpm

Important: Type the command in one line. Do not press enter, if


approaching the end of a line. Wait and press enter only after the
entire command is typed.

Verify that the installation for all five packages completed.

Configure NetWorker Server Authentication


Configure NetWorker Authentication software on Linux.

10. On the NW console, configure the Authentication Service with the following
command:

/opt/nsr/authc-server/scripts/authc_configure.sh

11. Accept the default location of the NRE software by pressing Enter.

12. During the installation, the hostname nw.dellemc.edu and the port number
9090 are used by default.

13. A keystore file is created. Specify the password to be used by the NetWorker
software:

Specify the keystore password: Student1!

Confirm the password: Student1!

Important: This is the password for encryption and SSL support of


the keystore file that is used by the NetWorker software and not the
NetWorker Administrator user.

14. The administrator account is created. Specify the password to be used for the
Administrator user.

Specify an initial password for the administrator:


Student1!

Confirm the password: Student1!

15. Confirm that the installation completed successfully.

16. Start the NetWorker daemons by typing the following commands:

systemctl start networker

systemctl status networker

Verify that the processes are running.

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to install NetWorker Management Console software in


the lab environment.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install the NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE).
• Install the NetWorker Management Console (NMC) software.
• Perform initial NMC configuration.

Install NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)


Locate and install the prerequisite NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)
software.

17. From the consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Log in with the following credentials:

User name: DellEMC\Administrator

Password: Student1!

18. Open File Explorer from the taskbar and browse to the following location:

Z:\Software\

Double-click nre-win-8.0.12-1 to begin the NRE install.

19. In the Welcome Wizard window, click Next.

Click Next.

20. In the End-User License Agreement window, select I accept the terms in
the License Agreement.

Click Next.

21. Accept the default installation location C:\Program Files\NRE, and then click
Next.

22. In the NetWorker Runtime Environment Setup window, click Install to


proceed the installation.

23. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Install NetWorker Management Console


Locate and install NMC software.

1. On the NMC console, open File Explorer and browse to the following location:

Z:\Software\win_x64\networkr

Double-click NetWorker-19.6.1.0 to begin the installation of NetWorker


Management Console (NMC).

Important: The NetWorker version being installed may be different


from what is displayed here.

2. In the Welcome Wizard window:

Enable I agree to the license term and agreements.

Click Next.

3. In the Configure Windows Firewall window:

Enable Do not configure the Windows Firewall.

Click Next.

4. In the Wizard Options window:

Enable Client.

Enable NetWorker Management Console.

Click Next.

5. In the NMC Options window, specify the following:

Authentication Host: nw.dellemc.edu

Click Next.

6. In the Security Alert window, read the message and click View Certificate.

7. Click Install Certificate.

8. Select Current User.

Click Next.

9. Select Place all certificates in the following store.

Browse for Trusted Root Certification Authorities.

Click OK and Next.

10. Click Finish to complete the certificate import.

When prompted to confirm the import, click Yes and OK.

Click OK again and Yes in the Security Alert window.

11. In the Configure embedded web server of NMC window, accept the default
Create a new certificate.

Click Next.

12. In the NMC Database Options window, accept the default options.

Click Next.

13. In the Migrating the NMC Database window, accept the default Skip the
Migration.

Click Install.

14. Monitor the NetWorker installation until complete.

15. In the Complete the Setup window, verify that the installation was successful.
Note that the installation and setup log location have been specified.

Click Finish to complete the NetWorker software installation.

16. To verify the installation using PowerShell, click the Windows icon to access
the Start menu.

Scroll down and click Windows PowerShell.

17. To verify that the appropriate NetWorker services are started, run the following
commands from Windows PowerShell:

get-service nsr*

get-service gst*

Verify that nsrexecd and gstd are running.

Close the PowerShell window.

Start NMC and Perform Initial NMC Configuration


Start NetWorker Management Console (NMC) and perform initial NMC
configuration tasks.

1. From the Start menu, locate the folder NRE and click NMC Launcher.

There is also a desktop icon called NMC Launcher.

2. Enter the NMC server hostname nmc.dellemc.edu when the window appears.

Click Connect.

On the Java(TM) Web Start console, click OK.

Important: If a security warning appears, click Continue and Run.

3. In the NetWorker Management Console Login window, type the login


information:

User Name: Administrator

Password: Student1!

Click Log In.

If a window to trust the certificate appears, click Yes.

4. In the End User License Agreement window, click Accept.

5. In the Welcome to the NMC Server Configuration wizard window, click


Next.

6. In the Set authentication server service account for the NMC server
window, accept the default authentication server service account information.

Click Next.

7. In the Define Database Backup Server window, type the name of the
NetWorker server:

NetWorker Server: nw.dellemc.edu

Client name: nmc.dellemc.edu

Click Next.

8. In the Specify a list of managed NetWorker servers window, type the name
of the NetWorker server:

NetWorker Servers: nw.dellemc.edu

Click Finish.

9. In the Enterprise window, click the name of the NetWorker server on the left.
The vertical pane divider to the right may have to be dragged to display the
tree.

Click Launch NetWorker Administration in the right pane to view the


NetWorker Administration interface.

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to install NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI) in the
lab environment.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install the NetWorker Runtime Environment.
• Install the NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI) software.
• Perform initial NWUI configuration.

Install NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)


Locate and install the prerequisite NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE)
software.

10. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NWUI console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Login: root

Password: Student1!

11. Change to the /software directory. Type the following commands:

cd /software

ls -l

The NWUI and NRE software are listed.

Important: The NWUI Linux installation file lgtonwui*.rpm is for


the NWUI application when NOT installed on a NetWorker server.
The package name for an installation on a Linux NetWorker server
is lgtonwuiserv*.rpm.

12. Install the NetWorker Runtime Environment (NRE) software with the following
command:

rpm -ivh nre-linux*.rpm

Verify that the installation completes.

13. Configure the NRE software with the following command:

/opt/nre/nreconfig.sh

Verify that the configuration completes.

Install NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI)


Locate and install NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI) software.

14. From the /software directory, install the NWUI software with the following
command:

rpm -ivh lgtonwui*.rpm

Verify that the installation completes.

Configure NWUI Software


Configure NetWorker Management Web UI (NWUI) software.

15. Configure the NWUI software with the following command:

/opt/nwui/scripts/nwui_configure.sh

16. Accept the default location of the NRE software by pressing Enter.

17. During the installation, the hostname nwui.dellemc.edu and the port
number 9090 are used by default.

18. A keystore file is created. Specify the password to be used by the NetWorker
software:

Specify the keystore password: Student1!

Confirm the password: Student1!

Important: This is the password for encryption and SSL support of


the keystore file that is used by the NetWorker software and not the
NetWorker Administrator user.

19. Specify the hostname of the NetWorker Authentication Service host:


nw.dellemc.edu

Accept the default port number 9090 by pressing Enter.

Specify the hostname of the NetWorker Server: nw.dellemc.edu

Accept the default port number 9090 by pressing Enter.

Verify that the installation completes.

20. The NWUI daemons should start automatically. Check the status by typing the
following command:

systemctl status nwui

If the daemons are not running, start the daemons by typing the command:

systemctl start nwui

21. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Launch the Firefox web browser from the taskbar at the bottom.

22. In the address field, enter the following address:

https://nwui.dellemc.edu:9090/nwui

If a security warning appears, click Advanced and Accept the Risk and
Continue.

23. In the web UI, type the login information:

Click LOG IN.

24. Verify access to the resources in the left menu using the Dashboard.

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to install a NetWorker Storage Node in the lab
environment.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install NetWorker storage node software.
• Configure the storage node in NWUI.

Install NetWorker Storage Node Software.


Locate and install NetWorker storage node software on Linux.

25. From consoles tab in VLP, open the SN console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Login: root

Password: Student1!

26. Change to the /software directory. Type the following commands:

cd /software

ls -l

The NetWorker client, extended client, and storage node packages are listed.

27. The required packages must be installed in the following order: NetWorker
client, extended client, and storage node.

Install the packages with the following command:

28. Start the NetWorker daemons by typing the following commands:

systemctl start networker

Configure External Storage Node


Configure a new server as an external storage node in NWUI.

29. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Username: DellEMC/Administrator

Password: Student1!

30. Launch the Firefox web browser from the taskbar at the bottom.

31. In the address field, enter the following address:

https://nwui.dellemc.edu:9090/nwui

If a security warning appears, click Advanced and Accept the Risk and
Continue.

32. In the web UI, type the login information:

Username: Administrator

Password: Student1!

Click LOG IN.

33. From the menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.

Select Storage Nodes.

34. To add server sn.dellemc.edu as an external storage node click +ADD in the
main window.

35. In Basic Configuration specify the following options:

Name: sn.dellemc.edu

Type: SCSI

Enable Device Connectivity Check.

Enable Advanced Configuration.

Accept all other defaults and click NEXT.

36. In Advanced Configuration enable the following options:

Search all luns

Use persistent Names

Accept all other defaults and click FINISH.

37. Verify that the Storage Node is added successfully.

In the menu on the left, expand Monitoring.

Click Server Messages. A message appears if there are any problems adding
the storage node.

NetWorker Client Installation

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to install NetWorker clients in the lab environment.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install NetWorker client software on Windows.
• Install NetWorker client software on Linux.
• Configure the clients in NWUI.

Install Client Software on Windows


NetWorker client software must be installed on the servers for backup and recovery
operations. Install NetWorker client software on the Windows host.

1. From consoles tab in VLP, open the WINDOWS console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Username: DellEMC\Administrator

Password: Student1!

2. Open File Explorer from the taskbar and browse to the following location:

\\nmc\z$\Software\win_x64\win_x64\networkr

Double-click lgtoclnt-19.6.1.0 to begin the installation of NetWorker client


software.

Important: The NetWorker version that is deployed may be


different from what is displayed here.

3. In the Welcome Wizard window:

Enable I agree to the license term and agreements.

Click Next.

4. Accept the default destination folder for the installation.

C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker

Click Next.

5. Do not run System Configuration Checker.

Click Next.

6. In the Configure Windows Firewall window:

Enable Do not configure the Windows Firewall.

Click Next.

7. Do not select any additional product options.

Click Install.

8. Monitor the NetWorker installation until it completes.

9. In the Complete the Setup window, verify that the installation was successful.
Note that the installation and setup log location is specified.

10. In the Complete the Setup page, click Select Backup Server.

11. Enter the server name nw.dellemc.edu and click Add.

Click OK and Finish.

Best Practice: In production environments it is best practice to include


the short name and fully qualified domain name of the NetWorker server
to prevent RPC connection errors.

12. To verify that the appropriate NetWorker services are started, run the following
command from Windows PowerShell:

get-service nsr*

Verify that nsrexecd is running.

Close the PowerShell window.

Install Client Software on Linux


NetWorker client software must be installed on the servers for backup and recovery
operations. Install NetWorker client software on the Linux host.

13. From consoles tab in VLP, open the LINUX console.

Log in with the following credentials:

Login: root

Password: Student1!

14. Change to the /software directory. Type the following commands:

cd /software

ls -l

The NetWorker client and extended client packages are listed.

15. The required packages must be installed in the following order: NetWorker
client, extended client.

Install the packages with the following command:

Verify that the installation completes.

16. Start the NetWorker daemons by typing the following commands:

systemctl start networker

systemctl status networker

Verify that the processes are running.

Configure NetWorker Clients


Create NetWorker clients for WINDOWS and LINUX in NWUI.

17. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Log in with the following credentials:

23. In Basic Configuration specify the following options:

Name: windows.dellemc.edu

Accept all other default options and click NEXT.

24. In Backup and Configuration, accept the default options.

Click NEXT.

Important: These exercises are for implementation and


configuration of NetWorker clients. Backup and recovery exercises
to protect NetWorker clients are practiced in the Dell NetWorker
Administration lab.

25. Allow a few minutes for the next screen. In Save Sets Configuration, accept
the default options.

27. Review the Summary.

Perform the following tasks:


• Install the Dell EMC license server software.
• Apply the license file.

Install License Server Software


Install and configure license server software.

1. From consoles tab in VLP, open the LICENSE console.

Log in with the following credentials:

User name: DellEMC\Administrator

Password: Student1!

2. Open File Explorer from the taskbar and browse to the following location:

\\nmc\z$\Software

Double-click DellEMC_LicenseServer_3.6.6_x64 to begin the installation.

3. The Dell EMC License Server Setup window appears.

Click Next.

4. The End-User License Agreement window appears:

9. Copy the license.lic file (Dell EMC NetWorker license file) from the NMC
server \\nmc\Z$\Software.

Add the license.lic file to the LICENSE server C:\Program Files\DellEMC


LicenseServer\elms\licenses.

10. To configure and start the Dell EMC License server service, start LMTOOLS
from the desktop of the LICENSE server.

11. Select Config Services tab.

12. To configure the service, specify the following options:

Service Name: Flexlm Service 1

Path to the lmgrd.exe file: C:\Program Files\DellEMC


LicenseServer\lmgrd.exe

Path to the license file: C:\Program Files\DellEMC


LicenseServer\elms\licenses\license.lic

13. Specify the following options:

Enable Use Services.

Enable Start Server at Power Up.

Click Save Service and click Yes to save it.

14. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

15. Click Start Server.

The bottom of the dialog box should display: Server Start Successful.

Close LMTOOLS.

Apply NetWorker License


Apply the license file in NetWorker Management Console.

16. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Use the NMC Launcher icon to open NetWorker Administration if not


already open.

17. In NetWorker Administration, click the Protection window.

Right-click the NetWorker server and select Properties.

18. In the Licensing tab, click the Browse icon next to the CLP license text field
to browse to the location of the license file.

Select the license.lic file from Z:\Software and then click Open. If prompted
to copy the license to the license location, click OK.

Click OK and click OK again to validate the same license file has been copied
to the correct location.

19. In NetWorker Administration, right-click the NetWorker server


nw.dellemc.edu and select Properties.

20. Click the Licensing tab. Then, click the yellow Validate box to validate the
CLP license file.

Verify that the validation is successful.

Click OK.

Important: The License Validation dialog opens and displays the


status of the validation. License validation reports SUCCESSFUL.

21. In the Licensing tab:

Enable CLP refresh.

22. In the Server window, click Registrations.

Verify that the license name is CLP Capacity License and Authorized - No
expiration date.

Scenario:

The purpose of this lab is to remotely upgrade a NetWorker client using Package
Manager in NMC.

Perform the following tasks:


• Add an older NetWorker Linux client to NMC.
• Add current NetWorker software to the software repository.
• Push the Linux upgrade remotely to the NetWorker client.

Add an older NetWorker client to NMC.

23. From consoles tab in VLP, open the NMC console.

Use the NMC Launcher icon to open NetWorker Administration.

24. In NetWorker Administration, click the Protection window.

Right-click Clients and select New Client Wizard.

25. Specify the following:

Client Name: upgrade.dellemc.edu

Click Next.

26. In Specify Backup Configuration Type, accept the default options.

Click Next.

If a certificate warning appears, click OK.

Important: Notice that the NetWorker version is 19.2.

27. In Select the NetWorker Client Properties, accept the default options.

Click Next.

28. In Select File System Objects, accept the default selections.

Click Next.

29. Review the Client Configuration Summary.

Click Create and verify that the client is added successfully.

Click Finish.

Configure the Software Repository


Add current NetWorker software to the software repository.

30. In NetWorker Administration, click the Hosts window.

Click the Software Repository tab.

Right-click in the field under Software and click Add to Repository.

31. The default directory on the NetWorker server displays.

Click OK to accept the location and OK again to confirm that the repository is
created successfully.

32. A window is displayed to identify the platform of the NetWorker software and
its location. Since the NetWorker server is Linux and the UPGRADE client is
Linux, this is a native platform.

Accept the default UNIX option.

33. In Media Kit, locate the NetWorker upgrade software on the NetWorker server
by clicking Media kit location.

Select the software folder from the nw.dellemc.edu server. This is the folder
containing the NetWorker Linux packages.

Click OK.

Important: The NW server contains the entire contents of the Linux


NetWorker software tar file that is extracted in the
/software/package directory.

34. Click Open Media Kit to discover the upgrade software packages available.

35. Select the NetWorker package.

Click Add.

36. A message appears that the NetWorker software has been added to the
repository.

Click OK and click Close.

37. The NetWorker client must be inventoried to determine what software is


already installed.

In the Hosts window, click the Active Hosts tab.

Right-click upgrade.dellemc.edu and select Perform Inventory.

38. A message appears instructing to monitor the progress of the inventory


operation under the Software Operations view.

Click OK. Monitor until the inventory is successful.

Upgrade NetWorker Client


Push the Linux client upgrade software to a Linux client.

39. Right-click upgrade.dellemc.edu and select Host Details.

40. To upgrade the client, right-click upgrade.dellemc.edu and select Upgrade

Read the Software Inventory Required message. Click Yes, Continue.

41. An Upgrade Software window appears.

43. From consoles tab in VLP, open the UPGRADE console.

Log in with the following credentials:
