Pitsen: thank u hya, now let’s discuss and know this famous composer, Franz Liszt. Franz liszt is born
in October 22, 1811. He was a Hungarian composer, pianist and teacher of the romantic period. With
a diverse body of work spanning more than six decades, he is considered to be one of the most
prolific and influential composers of his era.

Pitsen: Liszt also first gained his renown during the early nineteenth century for his virtuoso skill as a
pianist and was regarded as one of the greatest pianists of all time. Some of his works are
programmatic, based on extra-musical inspirations such as poetry or art. He is also credited with the
creation of the symphonic poem.

Pitsen: Besides his musical works, liszt wrote essays about many subjects. Most important for an
understanding of his development is the article series ‘De la situationdes artistes’ (‘on the situation of
artists’) which was published in the Parisian Gazette musicale in 1935. Franz Liszt also offered his
students little technical advice, expecting them to ‘wash their dirty linen at home,’as he phrased it.
Instead, he focused on musical interpretation with a combination of anecdote, metaphor, and wit.

Pitsen: from what I said, how can you describe Franz Liszt?

Pitsen: yes joyce?

Joyce: He was an excellent composer and was the first to give complete solo recitals as a pianist.

Pitsen: thank u joyce, another one?

Pitsen? Yes? Lean?

Lean: He was a hard-working artist and a brilliant role model to his students.

Pitsen: okay, now that you already know Franz Liszt. Let’s continue our topic with another famous
artist in his era, called Robert Schumann.

Pitsen: Robert Schumann is born in June 8, 1810. he was a German composer, pianist, and influential
music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the romantic era. Schumann
left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. His teacher, Friedrich Wieck, a
german pianist, had assured him that he could become the finest pianist in Europe, but a hand injury
ended this dream. Schumann then focused his musical energies on composing.

Carlo: It seems like Robert Schumann failed in becoming the finest pianist, but he also has a talent in
composing which make him admirable by others.

Clint: Right! He really is tolerable.

Pitsen: Until 1840, Schumann wrote exclusively for the piano. Later, he composed piano and
orchestral works, and many Lieder (songs for voice and piano). He composed four symphonies, one
opera, and other orchestral, choral, and chamber works. His best-known works include Carnaval,
Symphonic Studies, Kinderszenen, Kreisleriana, and the Fantasie in C. Schumann was known for
infusing his music with characters through motifs, as well as references to works of literature.

Pitsen: Schumann also suffered from a mental disorder that first manifested in 1833 as a severe
melancholic depressive episode-which recurred several times alternating with phases of ‘exaltation’
and increasingly and delusional ideas of being poisoned ar threatened with metallic items.

NARRATOR: Their lessons continued until it’s time to take their snacks.
