Background
Background Green Hydrogen Utilization
Ø In 2020, hydrogen consumption in China was 33.42 million tons, with 37% used for
ammonia production, and 19% for methanol production. To meet the global target of
limiting the temperature rise to 2.0 ℃ by 2050, 29% of global ammonia/nitric acid
capacity and all incremental capacity must be replaced by green electricity
Ø Flexible green hydrogen production can absorb renewable energy, and its utilization in
the chemical industry can create a versatile multi-energy system for de-carbonization

Modeling of Electric-Hydrogen Coupling Systems
Modeling Technological Requirements
Ø Due to limitations in the efficiency and safety of low-voltage high-current DC grid topologies,
an off-grid AC P2H system based on energy storage grid-forming is proposed
Ø The challenge lies in appropriately configuring and controlling power sources, P2H,
hydrogen loads, and energy storages to ensure the safety and cost-effectiveness of
hydrogen production

Energy Management Contingency
Ø Performing anticipated N-1 faults scanning, revealing that voltage drop can recover quickly,
but frequency remains deviated from the rated value over an extended period, accompanied
by rapid energy storage SOC depletion.
Ø Inspired by the three defense lines of the main power grid, an emergency control
strategy for electro-hydrogen coupling systems is proposed.

Energy Management Contingency
Ø Scanning separate N-1 fault scenarios to test whether the capacity of the grid-forming
energy storage could support system stability.
Ø The developed N-1 emergency control strategy enables the post-contingency frequency
to rapidly recover to near the rated value, both considering source or load-side faults

Planning Result Capacity Optimization
Ø Based on real-time, high-precision data from typical solar and wind farms, a typical 25MW
green hydrogen microgrid was simulated. With an energy storage capacity of
4MW/4MWh, it can meet the conditions for grid forming
Ø Based on actual wind and solar power plant data for a full year of 8760 hours, we can
determine the minimum ES capacity that satisfies long-term energy balance requirements
Ø Simulation results indicate that in off-grid green hydrogen microgrids, the adjustment
frequency and depth of the electrolyzers significantly influence the required energy
