INDIVIDUAL ASSIGMENT
EARLYLIFE
Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo was born on November 15, 1948 in GeorgeTown
Pulau Penang, Malaysia. He was raised in Malaysia. His father was a shoemaker in
Pulau Penang and had a shoe business. He got his initial exposure to shoemaking techniques
from his father, who is a full-time shoemaker.
EDUCATION
Shih Chung Primary School was where Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo got his early
education up till the year six. In 1983 after end his studies in Malaysia Prefessor Datuk Dr.
Jimmy Choo decided to pursue his studies at a higher level in the fields of sheomaking and
fashion at Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney, London for three years.
CAREER
Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo learned how to make shoes from his father at a young age,
and by the time he was 11 years old, he had made a successful pair of shoes. He began his
career by working as an assistant shoe designer for two years in a factory in Hackney,
London, after graduating from Cordwainers College. Then he started his own shoe business
by renting an ancient structure that had formerly been a hospital, but after four years the
Professor Datuk Dr, Jimmy Choo’s shoe business was still not promising. His first designer
shoes at the beginning of the business were designed under the Lucky Shoes brand label in
1984. Two years later, he used his own name. His design was noticed and covered by Vogue
magazine in the United Kingdom after 4 years of attempting and working diligently on his
business. Even though he has been extensively covered by Vogue and his shoe business is
already well-known, sales of shoes are still not promising until the late Diana, Princess of
Wales, becomes attracted to and shows an interest in Jimmy Choo's shoe designs, designating

the Jimmy Choo brand as her preferred shoe brand. This keeps the demand for Jimmy Choo
brand shoes strong, indirectly making the Jimmy Choo brand popular in London. After that,
in 1996, Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo and Tamaran Mellon, the editor of Vogue
magazine, launched a shoe manufacturing business with an Italian base under the name
Jimmy Choo Ltd. Datuk Jimmy Choo sold Equinox Luxury Holdings Ltd. 50% of the
company's stock in 2001. Robert Bensoussan, the chairman and CEO of Equinox, has been
named the CEO of the Jimmy Choo company. Today Hanna Collman is the new CEO of
Jimmy Choo Ltd. Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo is selling the shares in order to
concentrate on the work being done by Jimmy Choo Couture.
PERSONAL LIFE
Professor Datuk Dr. Jimmy Choo is a Chinese Buddhist Malaysian who is of Chinese
descent. He chose to live in London because he was familiar with the fashion style there. He
married his wife Rebbeca Choi and reared their family in London. They both met while
attending the same college, where they were both students. He had two children as a
consequence of this marriage: Danny Choo, who is now 50 years old, and Emily Choo, who
is 33. Both of them were reared and born in Hackney, London.
