TITLE PAGE
Biodegradable face mask is inspired to help the community with its problem with
waste and pollution. It is created out of the trunk of the banana tree, commonly
known as pseudo stem. Pseudo stem is recognized for its exceptional tensile
strength, spinning quality, biodegradability, and durability.

INTRODUCTION
When the Pandemic started because of the widespread of the coronavirus
disease, humanity was required to use face masks to serve as their protection.
This became one of the major problems the world is facing, its addends to the
problem the environment have- the pollution. The extensive use of face masks
contributes to several of pollution, from water, air, and land pollution. It is
important to focus on the problem which is pollution because of its possible
factors that can highly affect the environment, if not prevented; this could lead to
much worse situation. There are other researchers who also conducted this kind
of project, the researchers’ aim now is to provide an up-to-date version of the
biodegradable mask that will encourage the people to use these. Overall, this
study is set to create an environmental-friendly face mask that can reduce waste
production as well as pollution in the environment.

VALUE OF THE STUDY

The result of this study may benefit the following:
Front liners. This research would benefit the front liner, because this mask will
help them to lessen the percentage from contacting viruses. People who are
more prone to viruses.
Students. This research would also help every student to follow the protocol and
to maintain the safety environment. Will also provide them an alternative, instead
of the usual face mask.
Future Researchers. This research paper may also be used by the future
researchers. They can refer to this study when they conduct a research related to
this.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Subagyo and Chafidz (2018) state that the banana is one of the most well-
known and useful plants in the world. Almost every part of this plant, including
the fruit, leaves, flower bud, trunk, and pseudo-stem, can be used. This chapter
discusses the fiber extracted from the banana plant's pseudo-stem. It discusses
the production of banana pseudo-stem fiber, which includes plantation and
harvesting; banana pseudo-stem fiber extraction; retting; and fiber degumming. It
also discusses the morphological, physical and mechanical properties, durability,
degradability, thermal, chemical, and antibacterial properties of banana pseudo-
stem fiber.

RESEARCH GOALS OR OBJECTIVES

The primary goal of this concept paper is to gain awareness in using this
eco-friendly facemask among the public because both the materials and the
design are of excellent quality. The production of waste and other forms of
pollution will also be reduced by inspiring people to wear this mask.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1. What is the Level of Acceptability of Biodegradable Face Mask in terms of:

1.1 Texture;
1.2 Comfortability;
1.3 Durability;
1.4 Appearance; and
1.5 Lasting Ability?
2. Is there any significant difference when using biodegradable face mask
and usual face mask?
3. Is there any significant relationship between the biodegradable face mask
and environment?

RESEARCH HYPOTHESES
1. There is no significant difference when using biodegradable face mask
and usual face mask
2. There is a significant relationship between the biodegradable face mask
and environment

METHODOLOGY
The research design the researchers’ will apply is exploratory design. The
researchers’ will analyze and conduct more of the information they currently have
to be able to expand their knowledge and successfully project the biodegradable
mask. With enough information of the process, and methods needed, the
researchers’ will be able to reach their goals.
TIMELINE
December 1, 2022: The conduct of research for Biodegradable Face mask will
begin.
January 4, 2023: The conduct of research for Biodegradable Face mask is
estimated to be finished.
