Never Give Up Even When Things Are Looking Hopeless

By Abigail Kebede
— Winners never quit, quitters never win— Vince Lombardi
They were hopeless, they had arrived, they were hopeless, they had found their parents, they were
hopeless, their dreams had come true. ‘Never give up even when things are looking hopeless,’ says
Jamal. I strongly agree with that phrase because you never know what is going to happen if you never
try. Boy Overboard is a book written by Morris Gleitzman about a family of four who are trying to
migrate from Afghanistan to Australia because of a war going on in Afghanistan. Jamal and Bibi are
siblings who are passionate about soccer. This book teaches us a lot about not giving up throughout the
pages so follow along.
They have gone, they are lost, they are all by themselves. In chapter 22 Jamal’s parents are on another
boat and the only solution is to catch the next boat. And so, they their positivity for themselves, and
believing that they could do whatever challenge they go through helped them end up somewhere
marvelous. Even when they got abounded on the boat they were in, they did not give up instead they
brought all their friends up and made a useful plan. Positivity decreases your depression and when that
depression decreases, you have a space in your brain that lets you think peacefully, especially when
going through something difficult.
They finally arrived in Australia without giving up but there was just one problem that lasted for a
second. THE BOAT JAMAL’S PARENTS HAVE BEEN IN HAVE DROWNED!!!! Obviously, the
book would not just end that way because their parents have not died. Even if they died though, Jamal
did not stop himself from leaving alone when everyone was told that the boat had drowned. Jamal did
not stop himself from starting a new life. Of course, he was frustrated before he knew they were alive,
they did not give up on starting a brand-new life. So, this has taught me that whatever happens, if you
are positive about yourself and believe in yourself, most things are possible to go through.
Here they come, they are looking at Bibi and Rashida very closely. In chapter 30, pirates came and
abounded the boat Jamal was on to take girls with no parents. Jamal didn’t want Bibi and Rashida taken
by Pirates so Omar and Jamal gave the girls everything that could make the girls look more like a boy
and to make them look even more like a boy they started playing soccer. And so their positivity and
belief in themselves helped Bibi and Rashida not to be taken away
I really agree with all the evidence I’ve written above because even in my personal experience these
things happen in my family but still in a mini version. And it’s always part of your life so if you always
give up you can’t reach your goals.
In conclusion, I believe that if you never give up you’ll end up more than where you want to be at. And
all my pieces of evidence are clear enough to explain the meaning of “Never Give Up” in Boy
Overboard. In my opinion, Jamal’s never giving up skills can also be used in real life.
