Parents,

First of all, I am excited to have your student in my 4th grade ELAR/SS Class! We have
a lot of fun things planned this year, and I’m excited to do these things with your child! My
goal with this letter is mainly to introduce myself, especially to those I haven’t met yet at
“Meet the Teacher” night.
My name is Brittany Davenport. I am a mom to 2 amazing young men. My oldest is
Kaeleb. He is 15 and a sophomore in high school. He keeps us remarkably busy with band
life! My youngest is Grayson. He is 12 and in 6th grade in intermediate school. He just started
down the band route. My fiancé and I live out here in Forney with the boys, and all of our
pets! I have 5 dogs, a mini-pig, 3 rabbits, 10 chickens, and a cat! We have a very full house!
During my down time I enjoy cooking, writing, reading, and doing fiber-arts. I have been a
teacher with the district now over 3 years!
I will cover this in class with your child, but also wanted to share some of the rules of
the classroom:
1. When the kids enter the classroom, their voices should be at a zero/no sound.
a. The reason for this is so we aren’t spending the first 10-15 minutes trying to
get everyone settled in and quiet to prepare for learning. As soon as they
come into the classroom there is a daily worksheet/journal for them to do
that is for a weekly grade.
b. This does not mean your child will not be allowed to talk at all during class.
We will do lots of fun activities where everyone’s voices will be especially
useful!
2. All tools needed for learning need to be ready to use, and those we don’t need will
have to be put away.
a. It’s particularly important to have a charged and working Chromebook for
class. A lot of work is done on them. Not having them ready to go can impact
your child’s grade, but also their behavior.
b. Toys and fidgets; anything not being useful for classwork needs to stay at
home or in backpacks. If fidgets or something is needed to help them stay
focused, please email, and we can discuss it. We will have days where kids can
bring a toy/stuffed animal.
3. Keep your body and your things to yourself!
a. For the most part, yes kids are playing. We know that. However, even while
playing kids can get hurt. Things can just quickly get out of hand or too rough.
So, it’s best to just tell everyone to keep their hands/objects to themselves.
My grading scales for all grades are on a 0-100% scale. Assignments are
automatically given 50 points if they are fully completed and tried. Quizzes are worth 200
points. Tests are worth 300 points. So please keep that in mind if your child is missing
something or has a low grade. There should be plenty of time in class for your child to
complete their work, but if they don’t it would be considered homework. If your child is
absent, it is still their responsibility to complete the work that is due. I will have everything
posted on my webpage. If there is an extreme situation, please contact me. Your child is
allowed to turn in work late, but it will be minus 5 points for each day it’s late. Keep in mind
it is always better to turn in something rather than nothing. All assignments can be redone
up to the end of the grading period every 3 weeks) for partial credit. Quizzes and Tests can
be made up as well but will need to be done in class or tutoring hours.
If you need to reach out to me, please email me at bdave@sky.net. My conference
hours are Monday and Wednesdays 10-11am.
