AlphaLogic Screening

A lphaLogic Screening is a screening method that uses a


halftoning algorithm developed by Dainippon Screen to generate
high-quality halftone screen output. AlphaLogic screening produces
screening without any banding. This screening method is available on
both the HQ-PM and HQ-PC RIPs.
The supported screen rullings are 2000, 2400, 3000, and 4000 dots per
inch (dpi).

Installing AlphaLogic Screening


To install AlphaLogic Screening:
1. Turn on the computer, if necessary.
2. Insert the CD-ROM into the appropriate drive.
On a Macintosh, a CD-ROM icon will appear on the desktop;
skip to Step 4.
3. On a PC, double-click the “My Computer” desktop icon.
4. Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
5. On a PC, double-click the “ALS_PC_Installer” folder.
On a Macintosh, double-click the “ALS_PM_Installer” folder.
6. On a PC, double-click “ALS_Installer.exe.”
On a Macintosh, double-click “ALS Installer.”
The ALS Installer window will appear.
7. Check that the “Folder” field shows the installed location
of the HQ RIP. If it does not, click “Change Folder,” then
navigate to the folder in which the HQ RIP is installed, select
it, and click “OK.”
8. In the “Choose Package” section, select “ALS Screening, 6.0.0.”
9. In the “Choose Product” section, select “ALS, 6.0.0.”

10. Click “Add.” AlphaLogic Screening is added to the list of
products to be installed.
11. Click “Install” to begin the installation. A progress bar will
indicate the status of the installation. When the installation
is complete, a dialog box will appear that tells you the
installation was successful.
12. Click “OK.”
AlphaLogic Screening has now been installed in the HQ RIP and has
been added to the list of dot shapes in the Edit Style for CMYK
Separations (Halftone) and Edit Style for Monochrome (Halftone)
dialog boxes.
The additions at the bottom of the dot shapes’ list appear as
“ALS_SQRdpi-lpi,” where “dpi” and “lpi” are numerical values. For ex-
ample, to use AlphaLogic Screening at 2,400 dpi and 100 lpi,
select “ALS_SQR2400-100.” Additionally, some of the added items
include “EX” at the end of the dot shape name, such as
“ALS_SQR2400-100EX.” The “EX” indicates extra gray in the screening.
