LONGER ADJECTIVES

Adjectives of three or more syllables form the


comparative by putting more/less in front of the adjectve
HOW DO YOU USE LONG
ADJECTIVES?
“LONG” ADJECTIVES ARE ADJECTIVES THAT HAVE THREE OR MORE SYLLABLES, OR
ADJECTIVES THAT HAVE TWO SYLLABLES AND DO NOT END IN “-Y.” FOR THESE
ADJECTIVES, WE CAN FOLLOW THESE RULES:
TWO SYLLABLES NOT ENDING IN “-Y”
INSERT THE WORD MORE/LESS BEFORE THE ADJECTIVE.
EXAMPLE:
CAREFUL BECOMES MORE/LESS CAREFUL.
THREE OR MORE SYLLABLES
INSERT THE WORD MORE/LESS BEFORE THE ADJECTIVE.
EXAMPLE:
INTELLIGENT BECOMES MORE/LESS INTELLIGENT.
Examples:
The second lecture was more interesting than
the first.
That way of calculating the figures seems less
complicated to me.
This sweater is less expensive than that one.
This book is more boring than the last one.
