Jesus urges the people to find a third way to expose the ills that exists in a system that is
rooted in oppression (Chapter5 101). This third way does not mirror the evils of the oppressor
but asserts human dignity in a more civil and peaceful way that may bring the oppressors to
evaluate their actions (Chapter5 110). The third way prompts people to find creative solutions to
problems other than resorting to violence (Chapter5 108). I would give an example of how
leaders portrayed their courage at a time when the public was filled with fear of the oppressors.
Leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi explained entering jail as a bridegroom entering a bride’s
chambers. When he was arrested, a group of people congratulated the government for arresting
him. Another example may be a South African lady who was spat on by a white man and she
told him thank you. She also prompted him to spit on the children which made him speechless.
The South Africans were facing discriminatory apartheid policies that segregated the
population based on Race. The South African uprising resulted into massive aggression from the
police and consequently, hundreds of men and women were killed (South Africa 0:15-0:44)).
The people were frustrated by the number of deaths which prompted a new generation of leaders
to come up with strategies that would expose the government. In Port Elizabeth, Mkhuseli Jack,
a youth organizer (South Africa 2:02-1:42) brought together people to boycott purchase of goods

from the towns where white men sold their goods. The shops owned by the whites begun to close
proving this tactic as the most effective method (South African 7:16-8:06). The South Africans
method is an example of the third way preached by Jesus in the Bible. The South African
government evaluated their oppressive actions and released Nelson Mandela (South Africa
