Epoxy Polyamide Paints
(Primer, Intermediate, and Topcoat)
1. Scope
1.1 This spoctication covers three typos of two-com.
ponent epoxy polyamide coatngs— primer, intermediate,
and topooat—for use on stael surtaves. The information
described herein shallbe used asa control for evaluation of
proposed coating sysiems. See SSPC-PS 13.01, "Epoxy
Polyamice Painting System," tor specifications covering
system requirements, including sur‘ace preparation, applic
cation, and thioxness.
1.2 These coatings, when applied aver propetty pre:
pared sive! surfaces, are sullable for exposures in environ
‘mental zones 2A ({requently wet by fresh water), 26 ¢hre-

2A The coatings supplied uncer this specification

4.4 Tre curing agent componont of each coating shall
Contain a liquid typo polyamide resin and volatilo solvent.
The polyamide resin shall be a eandersation product of
dimetized fatty acids and polyamines.

5. Properties
5A The epoxy resin shall mest the requirements of

comparable in performance tothe reference formulations of
Table 1. They need net be comgoeed of the quantiles and
types of ingredients given in Table 1. However, if substitu-
tions of other ingredients are mace. the coatings shall meet
the performance requirements of this specication; and,
when incorporatedlinto # painting system, the performance
requirements of SSPC-PS 13.01, "Epoxy Polyamide Pair

dance with SSPC-SP 10, "Noar Whit Blast Cleaning * Air

5.8 ELCOMETER ADHESION TEST: Prepare tost
ppanols as in Section 8.7 using 7/4" (Sm) thick stool plate.
Apply coatings at 2.0-8.0 mils (51-76 micrometers) dry fm

ule.

6.3 DIRECTIONS FOR USE: The manutacturer shall
supply complete instructions covering uses, surlace prepa
ration, mixing, thinning, epplication method, application
conditions. pollife, wet andl dry fim thicknesses, tempera
ture and numidty limitations, crying time, ete., with each
of pain,

required:
Mixing and Thinning: Each coating component should
be stired to a smooth homogenous mixture. Then the
prope: amount of base and curing agent components, as
recommended by the manufacturer, should be added
