CONCEPT NOTE
Reports - are formally structured in sections. The use of sections makes it easy for the reader to
jump straight to the information they need.
There are 7 Basic Structures of Reports:
I. Title page - The title needs to concisely state the topic of the report. It needs to be
informative and descriptive so that someone just reading the title will understand the main
issue of your report.
II. Abstract - It should enable the reader to make an informed decision about whether they
want to read the whole report.
III. List of Figures and Tables - show all of the graphics, equations, and tables in a
document.
IV. Introduction – Where the problem is explained and showed the reader why the report is
being made.
V. Body – Includes the Review of the Literature, Materials and Results. The discussion
section is also included at the end to go over by findings and their significance.
VI. Conclusions – Draw out implications of the findings. It includes the significance and
relevance of the report.
VII. Recommendations - a suggestion or proposal as to the best course of action.
VIII. References – The list of details of all sources.
IX. Appendices - Hold any additional information that may help the reader but is not essential
to the report’s main findings: anything that 'adds value'.
