Activity Card 1. Behind the White Light


Objective: Investigate how sunlight can be separated into a rainbow of
colors through prism.
What you need:
1. White flat surface
2. Prism
3. Light beam
4. Card board
5. Paper and pen
What to do:
1. Place two pieces of cardboard with a small gap between them to allow
a thin slit of light to go through the gap.

2. Place a prism on a sheet of paper and a few cm in front of the beam of


light.

3. Rotate the prism slightly until a clear and wide spectrum is visible.
Process Questions for Activity 1:
1. What is white light made of? Write down the color spectrum you
observed in proper order from top to bottom.
2. What is the name given to the band of colours observed?
3. What color bends the least?
4. What color bends the most?
5. Explain why white light splits up into different colors when it goes
through a prism?
