SCHEME OF WORK
Form 5, 2021 (Extended)
Notes
The Form 5 extended class has now been split into two equally able sets.
Two or three students in each of the sets are a little behind and will need close monitoring and support. These were previously in 4.2 or
spent most of Form 4 learning online.
If they get a U at half term, they are to be moved to 5.3 after half term 1.
If they get an E or worse at the end of Term 1, they move to 5.3 for term 2.

Assessments
Form 5s do a test (past paper) once every two weeks. A few questions are omitted to fit it in the available time
The two classes have the students that are equally able therefore the same test could be set for both classes.

1 Not in the Perpendicular  Find the equation of a perpendicular Rayner
Collins textbook bisector bisector, given two points. Extended

 Solve problems solved by quadratic

equations (quadratic word problems).

2 Ch 22 Gradient of a curve  Estimate gradients of curves by drawing Collins Pg. 364 Test 1
Differentiation tangents.
 Understand the idea of a derived
function.
 Use the derivatives of functions of the
form axn, and simple sums of not more
than three of these.

3 Turning points  Apply differentiation to gradients and Collins Pg. 369

turning points (stationary points).
 Discriminate between maxima and
minima by any method.

4 Ch 28 Symmetry  Recognise symmetry properties of the Collins Pg. 520 Test 2

prism (including cylinder) and the
pyramid (including cone).
 Use the following symmetry properties
of circles:
- equal chords are equidistant from the
centre
- the perpendicular bisector of a chord
passes through the centre
- tangents from an external point are
equal in length.

Enlargements  Construct given enlargements Collins Pg. 559 Positive, fractional and
negative scale factors
Combined  Recognise and describe reflections, Collins Pg. 561 for enlargements.

scale from 0 to 1.
 Understand that the probability of an
event occurring = 1 – the probability of
the event not occurring.
11 Relative frequency  Understand relative frequency as an Collins Pg. 661
