Influence Mechanisms

Influence mechanisms convert latent power into actual


influence over others.

o Assertiveness – Giving orders/deadlines, confrontation


o Ingratiation – Friendly encouragement, recognition
o Rationality – Employing logic and reason
o Upward appeal – Making formal or informal approaches to superiors
o Coalition formation – Seeking backing from others to support your
decision/agenda
