Modal Perfect

What is Modal Perfect?


Modal perfect is a medal auxllary combine with perfect form

Modal + have + Verb 3


Modal perfect doesn’t follow the subject verb Agreement

 Might + have + verb 3

Is used to show probability / prediction or when you are unsure of things happened
Ex: karen carne late this morning, she might have missed the bus as I am not sure why she
was lale

 Must have + verb 3 is ured to state strong conclusion / certanty / when you are sure
about things happened
Ex :Dona must have returned the camera she rented during her way to work I saw her car
parked near the camera rental Store

 Couldn’t have + verb 3

To state impossibility / when you are sure that it was not the case. (this is the opposit of must
have V3)
Ex: we couldn’t have repaired the motor cycle because is pare parts are very difficult to get

 Could + have + Verb 3

To state thing which was able to happen in the past but not Anymore in present days / when
you chose not to do it although you have a chance.
Ex: We didn’t go out last night, we could have gone to the cinema but we decided to stay at
home .

 Should have i Verb 3

To state advice and regret


Ex :you should have asked for the boss’s approval first before withdrawing some amount of
money.

 Would + have + verb 3

To state an intention in the past that didn’t happen.


Ex: I would have told her now I felt if I had met her at prom.
