a) T his self-assessment is intended to guide all BPC employees to properly adjust their computer workstation.
b) Use this tool while seated at your workstation and make appropriate adjustment.
c) Repeat both online training and this self-assessment yearly or in any case change the workstation
d You may require additional support for some adjustment. Please contact your supervisor or local EHS.

complaints on physical ergonomics and / or musculoskeletal disorders / pain.
f) Please contact your superior or dedicated SHO or BPC Industrial Hygienist to report any sign of potential discomfort related to

If both monitors are used equally they should be at the same height and centered in
front of your body. Adjust your monitors or tilt monitors inwards slightly.

Typically monitors should be positioned at your arm's length away from the eyes,
however dual monitors must be further away to avoid turning the head. If dual monitors
are too close you could add a keyboard tray or switch to a single widescreen monitor.

If one monitor is used primarily and one occasionally, center the primary monitor in front
of the body (at arms length from eyes). Place the secondary monitor on the either side
of the primary monitor and angle the outer edge towards you.

Give your eyes a rest by following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes look at something
20 feet away for 20 seconds. As well, blink often to keeps your eyes lubricated.

Take steps to minimize glare. If you have a bright window either behind or in front of you
either reposition your workstation so the window is to your side of install window
coverings and class them during the bright parts of the day.

If laptops are used as a primary computer they are set up using the same ergonomic
principles as desktop computers. A separate keyboard and input device are required.

If laptops are used outside the office, (e.g. on a plane, in a hotel) change your posture
regularly to improve neck and wrist posture and duration of time on laptop should be
minimized

Laptops used in vehicles are set up at a comfortable angle and infrequent use. Take
frequent breaks from computer tasks.

Tablets and smartphones should be used with the shoulders relaxed, arms and neck in a
neutral posture without excessive neck bending to view the screen.

Do you often look at paper documents and reference materials while using your

document holder which can be positioned between your keyboard and monitor. This will
prevent twisting of the neck.
