Who is Father Christmas?

Father Christmas has other names. Some people call him Santa Claus, or just Santy. He is an old man
who wears a red suit, trimmed with white fur. He has a black belt and black
boots. He also wears a red cap with a white fur trim and a pompom. He has
a big white beard. He has a friendly smile and a loving gleam in his eye.
Children love him because he is kind and he brings them presents every
year on Christmas Eve. At Christmas, elves help him to do his job – they
wrap presents and they help Santa load them onto his sleigh. Santa’s wife
also helps. Santa and his elves spend the rest of the year making presents.
Santa also reads the letters that children send
him. Eight reindeer pull his sleigh. Rudolph the
red nosed reindeer is the leader. On Christmas
Eve, they fly through the sky and visit every country where there are
good boys and girls. Santa climbs down the chimney to deliver the
presents. Many children leave a mince pie or a biscuit for him and some
carrots for the reindeer. We first heard about Santa Claus in Turkey
hundreds of years ago. He was Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of
children. Some people say Santa lives in Lapland, a magical place with lots
of snow. Others say he lives at the North Pole. But we can all agree, from children of two years old to
children of one hundred and two years old - Santa Claus lives in our hearts and in our minds.
