With all the discussion surrounding artificial intelligence, big
data, cybersecurity, sustainability, virtualization, grids, and
many of the other buzzwords of today's fast-paced Information
Technology (IT) world, it is easy to forget about the physical
infrastructure that has to be in place to support the day to day
functions in the data center.

Building a flexible, adaptable, and cost-effective data center

today is no easy task. For example, data center consolidation,
while it may promise to save money, can actually tax the
infrastructure in ways that might not be imagined. The demands
on cooling and electrical power systems can exceed expectations,
ratcheting up costs and potentially leading to performance
problems - even outages.
The hybrid data center architecture

The physical infrastructure in the data center is the base of

the pyramid upon which all computing, network, and storage
resources rest, and upon which all business-critical
applications rely. If the physical infrastructure is not ready
to handle server consolidation, for example, this could create
