This article explores the historical evolution of the New World Order formed
after the end of the cold war, emphasizing the gradual dissonance between the
convergence process caused by globalization and the geostrategic interests of the
United States. Since 2001, the United States has sought to reverse the decline of its
hegemonic position. This phenomenon is causing a rearrangement of the international
political order, especially if the rise of revisionist powers such as China and Russia is
taken into account. The realignment of the international order has led the main
dominant powers to establish spaces of regional hegemony, in the same way that the
United States and the Soviet Union did during the Cold War.
The creation of differentiated geopolitical spaces limits the possibility that the
globalization process produces a political and economic convergence of great
magnitude. From this fact, a withdrawal of the liberal values that informed the
globalization process during the first three decades that followed the end of the Cold
War can be deduced. The new New World Order can be the precursor of an
international political system based on the establishment of geopolitical spaces that
adopt their own form of political and economic organization and resist the idea of a
uniform and universalized last man.
