5 – General advice
5-1 On reception of the equipment

Check than the crane indeed corresponds to the one ordered.

After completely terminating installation, carry out the acceptance tests on the equipment.

In the event of anomaly, make out a report expressing the usual reservations.

5-2 Commissioning

Limited slewing motion cranes will provide trouble-free service only provided they are mounted exactly as indicated
in this manual and the maintenance and tests stipulated are conducted at regular intervals. Neglecting to follow
these instructions will only be at the cost of safety, and no claims can be considered. Likewise, for safety reasons,
only genuine spares must be used.

6 – Mounting VATS cranes
6-1 Preparation:

The fastener supports must first be checked and prepared to ensure that they can withstand the reactive forces indicated in
the VERLINDE EUROSTYLE crane technical guide manual.

The fasteners are the responsibility of the customer. The holes must be drilled to a diameter of 26 mm and the drilling and
positioning operation must be that appropriate for the type of base plate delivered with the crane (see technical guide
manual).

6-2 Mounting of brackets

Caution! In no case must the brackets be mounted with the boom, since this would make subsequent adjustment
impossible. Carry out the mounting operations exactly in accordance with the instructions.

1. Place the upper bracket item 3 on the support at the desired height and adjust the horizontality with a level
gauge.
2. Mark out the positions of the holes on the support and drill them to a diameter of 26 mm.
3. Secure the upper bracket with HMR class 10.9 24 mm bolts (not included in the supplies), tightening the nuts
only moderately.
4. Place the lower wall bracket item 3 bis on the support at the distance from the upper bracket as appropriate for
the type of bracket provided (see technical guide) and check that is horizontal with the level gauge.
5. Secure the lower bracket with HMM de 24 class 10.9 bolts (not included in the supplies), tightening the nuts only
moderately.
6. Check that the two brackets are vertically aligned with one another, using a bob weight.

Caution! If alignment is not absolutely exact, the crane may move unaided. DANGER OF ACCIDENT.

7. Tighten the HMR24 bolts to a torque of 66 daN.m and screw the lock nuts tight.

6-3 : Mounting the boom

1. Position the boom item 2 between the two brackets, and place a washer item 4 if the bracket is a type 1
bracket, or a washer item 4 bis if the bracket is a type 2 or 3 bracket, between the lower bracket and the boom
slewing movement cylinder.
2. Insert the slewing shaft item 5 into the boom slewing movement cylinder. The diameter is 40 for a type 1 bracket
and 45 for a type 2 or 3 bracket.
3. Insert bolt item 6 into the slewing shaft and the flat piece situated on the lower bracket and secure them with nut
item 7.
4. Insert split pin item 8 into the top of the slewing shaft.

6-4 : Connection of power supply line (see Appendix 1):

8 – Maintenance
Use only specialist contractors or experts to conduct maintenance and inspection tasks. If necessary, ask your supplier
for a list.
For safety reasons, use only genuine spares made by the constructor.

1. The cranes will operate perfectly only provided maintenance is carried out in accordance with this manual and the
equipment is checked and inspected at regular intervals. Only at the cost of safety can these instructions be
ignored, with consequent refusal of all claims. Access to the equipment and in particular the anchor points must be
kept permanently available for inspection operations.
2. Equally, when conducting maintenance operations, comply with the applicable legislation.
3. Depending on their use, the cranes must be inspected at least once a year by an expert.
4. Open the mains isolating switch before conducting any maintenance or inspection work on the crane.
5. Inform the supplier at once of any defects and immediately cease using the equipment. We disclaim all liability if any
modifications, unauthorised work and repairs are undertaken without first receiving our written agreement.
6. All bearings are packed with long duration grease and in principle no further greasing will ever be needed.
7. In addition, the position of the anchor rods, nuts, lock nuts and the adjustment and condition of the trolley rolling
mechanism and suspension of the hoisting devices must also be verified. Check that all the elements operate
correctly without setting any safety problems. All the parts that have reached a certain level of wear must be
replaced.
8. Painstaking maintenance and careful use will increase the service life of your crane.
9. Consult the manual for maintenance of the hoist.
10. Check the tightening torque of the screws. In doing so, there must be no external tension forces on any screw
connections.

Tightening torque relevant to class 10.9 for lightly lubricated black HV screws:

Dimension Torque (mk)

M16 28.4
M20 55.4
M22 76.2
M24 95.8
M27 142

Greased M27 anchor rod nuts must be tightened to a torque of 80 daN.m. Block all the anchor rod nuts by tightening
their lock nuts.
Any cracked or damaged screws must be replaced immediately.

An initial inspection must be made after no more than 100 hours of use. After that, we recommend that the equipment be
inspected every 600 hours of use, or every three months.
Comply with applicable legislation.

11. Test the welds and structural elements. Check that there are no cracks on the principle welds, junctions and the
different elements, particularly on the lower and upper parts of the crane and the securing devices of the boom.

Caution! It is forbidden to modify or add elements to the crane without the written agreement of the constructor or
supplier.
