DESERT BOARD

ABOUT
DESERT BOARD manufactured by Al Talah Board is an innovative industrial
company that recycles date palm tree waste into Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) products for the local
and international market.

The idea behind the revolutionary product came from the realization of the abundant palm tree trim-
mings (waste) produced by the UAE and a need to recycle the waste in an environmentally friendly
manner.

The result was producing high-quality wooden OSB boards that are locally sourced and manufactured
sustainably by recycling palm waste.

OSB BOARDS
Desert Board creates locally sourced and manufactured Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) by recycling palm
waste. The durability and strength of the fibers in palm trees perform exceptionally well once recycled into OSB
boards and provide multipurpose functionality.

These boards have many potential uses such as shuttering material for concreting, hoarding on construction
sites, walkways, furniture, heavy-duty packing boxes for shipping
purposes, doors and are even used as Structures and Walls in many countries around the world.
The boards are created in line with the European EN300 standards.
FACTORY
Desert Board operates a 56,000 m2 factory
located in the Kizad Zone of Abu Dhabi. The
factory has an estimated capacity to produce
120,000 cubic meters of wooden board products
per year.

The machinery for the recycling plant has been

imported from one of the leading Companies in
Germany, and Desert Board will be the first company
to produce OSB boards from palm waste.

The company has undergone multiple years of

research in the UAE and Germany to perfect the
process and create a superior OSB board that
performs better than its traditional counterpart.
FRONDS
Desert Board will require roughly 15% of the
country’s palm waste annually out of the
500,000 tonnes of palm waste that the UAE
produces every year.

Palm waste is abundantly produced in the

UAE, generally sent out to landfills or is com-
posted where it takes a long time to biode-
grade.

The durability and strength of the fibers in palm

trees perform exceptionally well once recycled
into OSB boards, posing a commercial and
environmental advantage to the UAE.
