The
3 II: MAIN BENEFITS IN MAPPING:
One of the main benefits of the lidar technology is
its ability to provide highly accurate and detailed
3D maps of the environment. lidar can be used to
create detailed maps of cities including buildings,
roads, and other infrastructure. Lidar can generate
a dense point cloud of millions of data points
which can be used to create a precise 3D model of
terrain and structures. This level of accuracy is
difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional
surveying methods and it can provide valuable
information for a range of applications such as:
1: urban planning and development
Lidar can be used to create detailed maps of cities
including buildings, roads and other
infrastructure. This information can be used to
plan new developments assess the impact of
proposed changes and manage existing
infrastructure .
2: environmental monitoring:
Lidar can be used to create high resolution maps
of forests, wetlands, and other natural
environment, this information can be used d to
monitor changes in vegetation, assess the impact
of climate change and plan conservation efforts.
3: disaster response:
Lidar can map areas affected by natural disasters
such as floods or earth quakes. This information
can help emergency responders plan and rescue
operations assess the damage and identify areas
at risk for future disasters .
4: SSURGO
the ssurgo data base contains information about
soil as collected by the national cooperative soil
survey over the course of a century the
information can be displayed in tables or as maps
and is available for most areas in the united states
and the territories , common wealths and island
nations served by the USDANRCS the information
was gathered by walking and observing the soil.
Many soil samples were analyzed in laboratories.
The maps outlines areas called map unit.the map
unit describe soils and other components that
have unique properties, interpretations and
productivity. The information was collected at
scales ranging from 1:12000 , 1: 63360 more
details were gathered in scale of 1:12000 , then at
scale of 1: 63360.the mapping is intended for
natural resourse planning and management by
land owners, townships and counties. Some
knowledge of soil data and map scale is necessary
to avoid misunderstandings
The maps are linked in data base to information
about the component soils and their properties
for each map unit. Each map unit may contain 1 2
3 major components and some minor
components . the map units are typically named
for the major components. Examples of
information available from the data base includes
available water capacity , soil reaction , electrical
conductivity, frequency of flooding , yields of
croplands , woodland, rangeland, and
pasturelands and limitation affected recreational
development, building site development and
other engineering uses.
SSURGO dataset consists of map data , tabular
data and information about how the maps and
table created. the extent of SSURGO dataset is soil
survey area which may consist of a single county,
multiple counties or parts of multiple counties.
SSURGO maps data can be viewed in the websoil
survey or downloaded in esri shape file format.the
coordinate system is geographic attribute data can
be downloaded in text format that can be
imported into microsoft excess database
