It was great
22.working with people from different backgrounds and skillsets. Our discussions were
fruitful and
23.it was really nice to learn from others. Everyone has their own unique skill set which can
be used effectively

Points of attention for next or remaining team work:

25.

For the next team work, I believe we have to be more focused on a single goal. When people with
different ideas work together, it is tough for everyone to be on the same page and level of
understanding. Hence, instead of pulling in different directions, we need to set a singular goal and
outcome to achieve.

27. Assignments Intercultural Competence – Cultural Background

story
My name is Rahul Acharya and this my story - I grew up in India
for 17years of my life but I never came from a traditional
upbringing. My cultural identity is that of being an Anglo Indian
which is a mix of being half european and half indian. This is a
phrase coined during the British empires reign in India and to
refer to people who are half and half. My cultural background is a
mix of Scottish and Gaelic teachings that have been passed
down through the generations from my Grandma while more
southern Indian teachings taught to me by my mother.
I have found it particularly difficult to find a place where I belong as I
have always been torn between 2 worlds, I am not European and I
am not Indian at the same time, and sometimes I fit in well in both
cultures but sometimes its hard to find a place where I belong. I
lived in Ireland for 3 years of my life after which I moved to the
United States for the past 8 years. I think this move was very
important for me because in America if you are accepting of the
American ways and lifestyle then you end up having a sense of
belonging and a place to call home. I believe that I found my
comfort there and I conformed to the American way of life.
I hold a very strong religions belief as being raised a protestant
has shaped me to be religious but also accepting of other
religions. I like to read and understand about various relgions
and from where different practices stem out of. It has been a truly
diverse experience for me by having friends from almost every
country on earth and learning more about their cultures but also
from where they come, their driving forces and their traditions. As
my dad is a christian and my mum is Islamic, I grew up in 2
different relgions which are similar ( Abhramic roots) but yet very
divergent on certain points.
India has been a great place to grow up as it taught me about
eastern philosophy and hospitality, while my scottish culture taught
me about independence, about being a group and about pride.
These were some of the defining factors in my life that have made
me the person I am today. I would not trade this in for anything as
these points make me unique in my own way but also at times they
leave me feeling very conservative in nature in this very liberal and
changing world we live in.
Hence I would like to conclude with a quote that I like "Under the
sword lifted high, There is hell making you tremble. But go
ahead, And you have the land of bliss. - Miyamoto Musashi." I
used this specific quote as it shows the skills that I learned from
shouldering the responsibilities of 2 various diverse but unqiue
cultures and getting a better understanding of them both and forging
my own personal identity in life.

Qualitative Assessment:
I have learnt that I am a driven and passionate person who is
interested and keen in learning more about myself both emotionally
and mentally. I like to dive deep into subjects and topics and relish in
finding more about the unknown. I always strive to become a better
person and the classes at HTH have helped me introspect more about
concepts and also about myself as a person. I have had great insight
into the leader which I wish to become, though it is just not one type
of leader but a mix of many, depending on the situation I find myself
in. It is really nice being in a diverse and multi cultural class as I am
able to learn more about where people come from and different
cultures at the same time. This insight has allowed me to engage
people in different ways and also be more empathetic at the same
time. Introspection is necessary to increase one’s learning curve as
there are times when stagnation is caused when we as people fail to
look within ourselves from time to time. The following are the
learning outcomes I have understood through my classes in Block 1 at
HTH :
