I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course deals with the nature of mathematics, appreciation of its practical, intellectual and
aesthetic dimensions and application of mathematical tools in daily life. This course encourages
students to go beyond the typical understanding of mathematics as merely a set of formulas but as a
source of aesthetics in patterns of nature, financial undertakings social interaction, areas associated
with coding, graphs and networks and processing of data and information, all guided by logic and
reasoning. These aspects will provide opportunities for actual doing mathematics in a broad range and
explore beyond what they perceive as mundane encounters with numbers and formulas.
1. Articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice.
2. Effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English/Filipino
3. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
4. Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility
5. Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7722)

IV. GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES
1. Articulate a comprehensive and contextualized view of the English language system and
development.
2. Communicate in English (both oral and written) fluently, accurately, and creatively in diverse
social, cultural, academic, and professional settings;
3. Facilitate English language learning in diverse social, cultural, academic, and professional setting
4. Participate effectively in oral communication situations where language systems (phonological,
morphological, syntactic, and semantic) vary;

5. Produce well-written texts for various academic and professional purposes;
Discuss the nature of mathematics, what it is, how it is expressed, represented and
used.
Use mathematics in other areas such as finance, business, environment, arts and
designs.
Appreciate the nature and uses of mathematics in everyday life.
This course shall be delivered through modules. Each module shall be forwarded to
different platforms preferably “Google Classroom”. Moreover, this course shall be
maximizing the “Mathematics in the Modern World” book of Ethel Cecille Baltazar. et all
as its main reference.
Power point presentations, video tutorials and other online materials will also be used
as additional learning tool.
1. During the first week, the class should assign a “class representative”. The class
representative is responsible in coordinating with the professor regarding class announcement
and other communications. He/she will help the professor/instructor in making sure that all
students will have the copy of the required readings for each topic. Lastly, he/she will
represent the class on all issues related to the course. A subject representative cannot be a
representative to other subjects.
2. The class should have an official FaceBook group chat. All announcements and other
important matters shall be made.
3. Readings should be uploaded in PDF form.
4. Class attendance must be checked regularly amidst the remote learning procedures.
5. Each student is encouraged to participate in all online and offline activities and is expected
to comply the minimum requirements identified by the instructor to pass the course.

6. Students may ask copy of the course guide for personal guidance and monitoring
7. Students must strictly adhere to the official submission schedule of modules set forth by
the institution and by the instructor.
8. Any form of academic dishonesty will be dealt accordingly (see the pertinent rules of the
student handbook of the college). Any student who is suspected to have committed cheating
will be requested to see the professor/instructor in the Department. The student will be given
the chance to air his or her side.
9. Students should always treat their professor and classmates with courtesy and respect.
11. It is also your responsibility to download modules send as PDF and to search for the
recommended resources, materials and additional references for this course.
12. All assignments and requirements should be submitted ON TIME. Late submission will
have corresponding point deductions and may not be accepted to give due respect to students
who submitted on time. Otherwise, personally present valid reasons for late submissions.
13. Individual work and requirements must be done INDIVIDUALLY and avoid deliberate
copying of answers.
14. For the group project and other requirements, it is your responsibility to get in touch with
your classmates.
