1 Overview of the APM30

1.1 Background
To implement easy, flexible, and convenient power distribution for Huawei separated macro
base stations and distributed base stations, to enable the BBU and transmission equipment of
the operators to adapt to adverse environment, and to provide backup power for the separated
macro base stations and distributed base stations, Huawei has introduced the APM30.

1.2 Positioning
The APM30 provides a comprehensive solution for distributed base stations and separated
macro base stations in terms of power distribution, surge protection, installation of the BBU
and transmission equipment, layout of the transmission cables, and DC power backup. The
rollout of the APM30 meets the requirements of fast network construction.

2 Key Benefits

2.1 Functions
The APM30 provides distributed base stations and separated macro base stations with the -48
V DC power and backup power from batteries. The APM30 provides space for the installation
of the BBU and transmission equipment. In addition, the APM30 performs the functions such
as battery management, monitoring and communication of the power system, surge protection,
and temperature control.
The auxiliary equipment of the APM30 is the transmission cabinet and battery cabinet, which
provide the following functions:
 The transmission cabinet provides a space of 11 U for user devices.
 The battery cabinet provides backup power of up to 48 V 184 Ah.

2.2 Installation Modes

The APM30 cabinet is small and light. It can be installed on a rooftop, on the concrete floor,
on a pole, on an overhead platform, or on a wall.
The external cables of the APM30 are simple and easy to install.

2.3 Environmental Adaptability

 In structural design, the APM30 can protect itself from the damage caused by water,
moisture, mould, corrosion, and theft. The open holes in the exterior of the APM30
cabinet help prevent the entry of foreign objects into the cabinet. The APM30 is highly
adaptable to outdoor applications.
 The APM30 can protect the AC/DC power supply against lightning stroke. It can be
installed on a rooftop or on a mountain top where lightning strokes frequently occur.
 The built-in rectifier of the APM30 can work within a wide range of input AC voltages.
The input voltage ranges from 176 V AC to 290 V AC, corresponding to the rated power
of the rectifier.
 The APM30 can properly control the internal temperature and work at a temperature
ranging from -40°C to +50°C.

2.4 Maintainability
The cables are led out of the APM30 from the cabinet bottom. You can replace faulty parts,
maintain the external ports, and connect the cables from the front of the APM30. The rectifier
and the monitoring module are hot-swappable. Therefore, the maintenance of the APM30 is
easy and convenient.

5 Typical Applications of the APM30

5.1 Applications in the Distributed Base Station

5.1.1 Power Backup with Built-in Batteries
The built-in batteries of the APM30 are applied to the distributed base station, as shown
in ‎Figure 5-1.

Figure 5-1 Typical application of the APM30 (1)

 The APM30 is applied to the typical distributed base station configured with one BBU
and three RRUs.
 The APM30 provides a space of 7 U for installing the BBU and transmission equipment.
When the APM30 is configured with 48 V 24 Ah battery groups (two groups of 48 V 12
Ah batteries), a space of 5 U is provided.
 The APM30 has a built-in power system to supply -48 V DC power to the distributed
base station and transmission equipment and to charge the configured batteries.
 In the absence of mains, the built-in battery groups of the APM30 supplies -48 V DC
power to the distributed base station and transmission equipment.
