G40 Design Defined Goal is the first iteration of the validation of the (Technical) Project Test Reports
requirements of the specifications. The result is the first Manager
available and tested physical sample and a test report to
verify the requirements or identify deviations.
G45 Design Stable The development phase has reached the design freeze. (Technical) Project Sample BOM
After this milestone, changes to the sample need to Manager
undergo the defined change management process.
G50 Design Goal is to validate all requirements of the specifications. Project Manager Series BOM
Validated The result is the release of materials and tools for series
production and a test report to confirm the requirements or
identify deviations.

G60 Production Goal is to verify the planned production process through (Technical) Project Production Process Plan
Process build-up of a sample. While the product is released for Manager
Defined series production and unchanged, the production line here
is in prototype/sample status.
G70 Product The product built on the final production line passes all Project Manager Series Release
Validated verification & validation processes and is released to series
production.
G80 Launch The series production is running on full scale without Project Manager
Completed deviations.

Traditional, agile and hybrid project management
The pressure for efficiency to compete in global
markets, especially with goods manufactured through
labor intensive production kicked-off the introduction of
project management methods to monitor any deviations
and optimize the development and especially the
production.
With more and more saturated global markets
differentiation through innovative products of increasing
complexity and a shift from costs from production to
development, a need for controlling projects without
stifling needed innovation and team interaction.

Agile

03.05.2023 16
Traditional
Focus on Quality / Scope / Output
▪ Safety (Processes against “laziness” &
documentation)
▪ Quality of documentation
▪ Hard project handover milestones (purchasing,
production, etc…)
▪ Faulty or wrong Hardware is connected to high costs
▪ Fixed set of features for an optimized price
▪ Untrained / low qualified personell
▪ Simplification of development and production steps
▪ Repetitive development

03.05.2023 17
Agile
▪ Quick innovation cycles
▪ Fast reaction to market demands and changes
▪ Complex and changing requirements that do not
allow for valid planning
▪ Small Steps or Small Phases (Features)
▪ Low availability of components (first purchaser
comes first)
▪ Innovative showcase projects especially in smaller
companies (necessary cost control) – full feature set
is secondary
▪ Motivated and capable teams

Agile Manifesto

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

Working software over comprehensive documentation

Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
