Basic Cream Formula

Water, Aloe Vera Gel, etc… 40% - 60% percent water other liquid such as
hydrosols, aloe vera gel or water, vegetable
glycerin, etc…

(This does not include oils. Oils are


calculated with butters below)

Stearic Acid (Thickener) 0 -2% thickener. This can be any thickener

Emulsifying Wax (Emulsion agent) 6% -9% emulsion agent. This can be any
emulsifying agent.

Butters, Carrier oils (Oils) 20% -35% % combination of oils and butters

Fragrance .5% - 1% fragrance

Preservative .1% -.5%

This is a very basic cream recipe formula that you can use to start formulating your own recipes. Not all
recipes will have all ingredients listed here in them. This is simply a basic formula designed to use as a
reference when making your own formulas. You should feel free to play with these percentages and
experiment when creating your own masterpiece creations. Don’t worry too much about making
mistakes or formulas that don’t work out perfectly. Keep experimenting and you will get there!

Keep in mind when creating a cream recipe that in general creams are rich and thick and in general take
longer to absorb into the skin than lotion. Creams have less water and more oils and butters than lotion.
