The English week: A celebration of culture through the English language
Liceo Hacienda Casablanca had a great celebration around the English language and the
different cultures of the world through the English week, where for 4 exciting days, the
educational community joyfully celebrated multiculturalism and interculturality through the
language of the world: the English language. From May 17th to May 20th, teachers and
students carried out a wide variety of
activities to immerse themselves in the
English language at the institution. During
this week the following activities were
carried out:
The video invitation: In this activity, the
seventh and eighth grade students made an
introductory video to the English week that
was presented on May 17, where the
educational community was invited to
participate in the English week.
The door contest: In this dynamic, all the
courses decorated the door of their
classroom with all those things and cultural
references representative of a country that
they chose, and participated in a contest
with the other doors of the other courses so
as to show what door would be the best
decorated. The following courses won the
door contest: J02, 201, 701 and 1001. The
best door of the school was the door of Best door 701
"Japan" of grade 701.
Little people: In this activity, the youngest students demonstrated their communication
skills by presenting different professions in English to the educational community.

In conclusion, this week was a great opportunity to get in touch with the English foreign
language as well as having a pleasant time outside the classroom through a new
language, in which from the youngest to the oldest could enjoy of our “English week”.

Spelling Bee
For us, the activities that take place in our school are quite important, one of them is the
Spelling Bee, which not only intents to motivate students towards the use of the foreign
language, but also to share such an special time and make the experience meaningful.
During the year, a process is carried out that begins with showing students the basic rules
to take into account in order to participate in the contest. Additionally, during each class,
we develop students' language skills through playful activities taking into account the
communicative approach, thus students are involved in constant practice in the classes.
The sections of the contest are divided by difficulty levels. The talent of our school will be
demonstrated during the contest. Who will be the champion?
Work hard, spell hard!

A NEW CLASS FOR STUDENTS

When you are learning English as a second language, you always need to know how the
process is. For helping you understand this procedure we are having some specific
classes called W/S or Writing and Speaking.

Before, English classes had just vocabulary, grammar and reading activities. However the
W/S classes are all Vocabulary, Grammar and activities in class for producing context.

During these W/S classes, students can practice the topics already seen in English
classes and where they can show the improvement of their producing English skills.

In these W/S classes we can see two important skills about production such as Written
production and Spoken production.

This new strategy for improving English skills has been developed by us and we have
decided to have just two exams during the year. This 2022 we have already presented the
first W/S exam. Students have been practicing for this new production exam and the
results have been better than we expected. And finally the moment our students present
the second exam we will know the effects of having this new class in the school. This final
exam is going to contain the process of an international exam to prepare students for
these kinds of exams.

So, let’s get started practicing and having a great result on the next exam.

Activities I like to do with my students in my English classes

Whenever I get the chance to study about the reported speech topic with my students I
ask them to bring a newspaper recent or an old one in order to make along with them
many interesting activities which I will be mentioning like the followings:

Try to guess the article

Select an interesting newspaper article, preferably one which involves an exciting or
unusual story. Choose eight key words from the article and write them on the board. Ask
students to work in team groups of 3-4 to come up with a story including these words.
When they have finished, read out and tell them about the original article. Get students to
read aloud their own versions - this can create a lot of laughs or funny comments.
Cut out a number of headlines and from each one remove an interesting word
(example: Missing Painting Found In ________ ). Stick the incomplete headlines on a
piece of paper, photocopy and distribute to teams of 3-4 students. Ask each team to come
up with two possible answers for each headline: the most likely word and the funniest
word. Collect all the responses and give each team a point for any correct answer, and for
the funniest answers. Get everyone involved by holding a vote for the funniest / most
original answer for each headline.
Quiz
Write a list of questions based on a selection of newspaper articles, and distribute the quiz
to teams of 2-3 students. Pin up the articles around the room and ask students to walk
around the room trying to find the answers. The winning team is the first to find all the
answers. This can be quite a lively activity.
Treasure hunting
For this activity you will need a pile of old newspapers, enough to distribute amongst
teams of 4-5 students. Write a list of articles / words / pictures which the students need to
find, and give teams a copy of the list. Tell them to cut out their 'treasures' and glue them
next to the appropriate word in the list (or make a note of the page number). Possible list:
Reference to a famous political figure
Job advert
Some good news
Some bad news
News about a star
Weather forecast
Name of a country
Sport News
Gossiping
Is a funny activity for helping students to summarise articles. For this activity it is best to
use newspapers or articles involving a bit of scandal, perhaps about famous people.
Teach students useful phrases for chatting or gossiping, e.g. 'Have you heard about…?',
'Did you know that…?', 'Guess what?' etc. Ask students to choose an article of their
choice, underline important parts of the article and report it to a friend, as though having
an informal chat. They could then go around the class, chatting with different people about
their news article. You could also teach students some useful phrases for responding, e.g.
'Really? I don't believe it!', 'Are you joking?

STUDENTS’ ARTICLES

RETURN TO CLASSES WITH TECHNOLOGY

As we well know, due to the pandemic that hit the world and locked us in our homes, many
models of employment and education had a significant change, the fact of not being able
to leave our homes led to the implementation of new production and teaching methods
such as one that we already know and are familiar with. Virtuality, thanks to it, we
managed to continue with our activities without exposing ourselves and for a while it was
difficult to get used to it, but after a while we realized that with technological means the
ability to learn is very wide, since there are many tools that we it provides technology and if
we know how to use it and take advantage of all the resources it is an infinite source of
knowledge.

That is why with the arrival of progressive alternation technology must also return, many of
those who would like to return to the classroom hope that thanks to this we can learn and
use the tools of technology, this would provide efficiency and productivity in the
classrooms. That is why in this article I will mention 5 benefits that we should have with the
implementation of technology in the classrooms. These advantages are the product of a
study published by the ROBOTIX company.
1. KNOWLEDGE SHARING: Social networks and the web involve sharing points of view
and discussing ideas, which helps students develop critical thinking, and social networks
encourage students to express themselves and interact with other classmates.

2. EXPAND YOUR MIND: Access to technology has allowed children to be exposed to

things outside of their usual interests and to broaden their minds. Thanks to the ease of
sharing content, it is possible to take advantage of the network to provide students with
educational materials such as electronic books, info graphics, videos and tutorials.

Another advantage of the use of technology in education is its flexibility and adaptability so
that students can follow different rhythms in their learning. The more advanced students
may have additional content at their disposal and those who need reinforcement can use
support materials to reinforce what they learn in class.

3. FUN IN THE CLASSROOM: The use of technology in the educational space allows the
use of more interactive tools and that keeps the attention of the students more easily. In
this way, students become more enthusiastic about learning.

4. APPLICABLE EDUCATION IN THE WORLD OF WORK: In almost all jobs, you have to
understand how technology works. If students start using it early, then they will be better
prepared for the future and will be able to get better job opportunities.

5. SCOPE OF INFORMATION: Any answer to any question can be found with a few clicks
of the keys on a computer or smartphone. Powerful search engines allow an organized.

Fashion as an art

“Fashion is not an art, but to dedicate yourself to it you have to be an artist” Yves Saint
Laurent.

Art and fashion complement each other, art, on the one hand, is a means of
communication and creative expression, where the artist is the creator and this interprets
his work, on the other hand, fashion design is defined as the manufacture of clothing and
accessories according to the cultural and social influences of a specific period,
representing the style and idea of the creator.

From my point of view fashion is one of the artistic activities with more social movement
that we can find today, a clear example of this is the Met Gala, which is the most important
event of the year in the fashion world.

Art is defined as an expression and fashion carries in it culture, beauty and capacity of
expression. It is the way we see the world, it is the art of creating something that is always
in constant movement, and it is thanks to this that it is art, because it is based on an
aesthetic and expressive beauty.
Arguing my point of view, I will mention the fashion museums that exist, where you can
find exhibitions of beautiful garments, just as you can do in an art gallery, so what is the
difference? Both are created for expression, based on ideas of interpretation, with a theme
and the purpose of seeing the world through it.

The importance of learning a variety of languages

Language is essential to a professional Life because today knowing English or French is
easy. Is like knowing maths this is now part of our lives if you want to get a good job the
truth is that you need to know how to speak a different language specially English or also
to start your own business in ; United States is a country where there are too many
Jobs ,also in Canada too , for this you need to learn the language I know there are some
people who don't like English which is the most important language the positive side of the
situation is that there are thousands of languages not only English you can also learn
French or mandarin etc…
You can choose the favorite one for you ,what it will really help you to learn it faster is how
much interest you and the most of it depends on the person who is in his or her spare time
practicing the language “go for it “ you can do it.
Being open to learn other languages also opens new frontiers ; frontiers of culture ,
frontiers of new ways to see how the world goes in the same way everyone think different
about any matter people from other parts of the world have different perspectives and
different ideas how the world should be .
When a student my age realize this understand that is not learning a new language but to
expand their own limits being able to understand other ways to think other ways to react in
different situations not based on their believes and cultures.
I want to learn languages because is something that will be useful for my entire life ; and
now I feel that I have the potential to learn whatever I’m determined to do as I say.
